Patton once said that the objective of war is "to make the other bastard die for his country".

Often when I read the world history, especially about wars, soldiers who fought so hard for their country, and in doing so, will have to do some killing one way or another.

I'm curious on how they are dealing with such event during their service.

On Feb 28, 1973 I killed 28 Pathet Lao (according to the ground troops) with one pass in my A7D Corsair II. They were running across a rice paddy in the open. Three Mk 82 (500 lb) bombs sent them to Buddha. One of the most vivid memories of my 250 combat missions in Southeast Asia. And I am not ashamed of it.
