Haha ok, so that you don't think I'm looney I was in for major depression and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). That was all for sexual abuse. My doctors say I should be recovered in a year or so.

Ok just saw that new answer someone gave me. I just wanted to know if you could join the Marines even with a medical record that shows you've been in a psychiatric hospital. First of all my uncle was in the Marines for over 30 years. He was the right hand man for the commadant for our beloved Corps. He is now buried at Arlington. I'm only 14 years old. I think I'll have plenty of time to recover before I join. I don't care if I die because its stressful. Have a job down in wallstreet is stressful. At least I'll die with pride and honor. I'm becoming a Marine, no pathetic medical record is gonna stop me. I've got Corps fever. Got to many relatives who were in the Corps and its not gonna stop there. I love the Marine Corps deeply. Oooh Rahhh! Semper Fi! Do or die!

As a former Career Retention Specialist for the Marines, your chances are very slim. To be honest, it may not happen. The Department of the Navy (BUMED) makes the decision whether you are physically qualified.
I successfully enlisted a Marine who had a depression problem and was taking a medication for it. But, he was only taking it for a year. The difference between you and the Marine I enlisted was that he was never in a hospital.
Although you still have another 4-years to go, you may need a lot of references and waivers for you to join. The Recruiters may tell you not to say anything about your medical condition. But, it may hurt your career if the military finds out later.
Good luck.

You can now. As of 2-13-07, according to Yahoo News, you can also have a conviction, a police record, past drug usage, and prison time. The military is so short of troops that they are lessening the requirements for enlistment, including patients in psychiatric hospitals. Their logic is everyone is entitled to start over.

If you had depression and post traumatic stress disorder don't join the armed forces. There is alot of pressure and discipline there and most likely they will send u to a war zone. Don't set yourself up for failure, a nervous breakdown, or death.

It depends on what you were in for and whether you've been cleared as recovered. If you have a condition that requires ongoing medication or therapy, probably not.

I doubt it...but then it depends on what you were there for. If just depression I don't think there'd be too much of an issue. Anything else? Nahhh.
