Not to be an alarmist, but as a kid the cheap items were all "Made in Japan." No big thing. Their ecomony later exploded. Then such items were "Made in Taiwan" and their economy did the same. Now all the cheap stuff is from China and that country is not a tiny island in the Pacific. When does the U.S. "outsourcing" that creates investment in China make their ecomony explode? How will the size of their country impact the world economy and the environment, specifically global warming, in 20 years or 50 years? China recently successfully blew up a satellite with a rocket launched from the ground over there, they are increasing investment in their military (though North Korea is probably providing good incentive to do so) and their population is skewing decidedly more towards males in the next generation; in what ways could their future economic resources and needs impact the national security of all nations? Is Mandarin as a second language more prudent than Spanish for our kids?
