Growing up in central Canada during the Cold War was a scary time and place. Tensions between the USSR and the USA were coming to a head the late 70s/80s. Neighbourhoods in my city were dotted with these ugly green towers with sirens on top which would warn us when a Nuclear Holocaust erupted between America and the USSR. One of these towers was right across the road from me and theyd test it once per week and believe me, it would scare the hell out of you when it went off.

You see, if the Soviets fired nuclear missiles at the US they would be intercepted and shot down by the Americans over Canada, thus killing us. Every day I'd come home from school and the TV would run these "tests" on what to do in the event of Nuclear War between the US and USSR. I used to have nightmares about Nuclear War when I was 10-12 years old.

Although I'm not emotionally scarred from it, my friends and I were talking the other day about how odd it was no one really talks about this period anymore

are they siding with our Village idiot now when he did to Iraq the exact same thing that Hitler did to Poland - Attack a non-threatening nation?

Isn't this somewhat hypocritical?

This is not meant to be anti- American, but there are so many British troops being killed by blue-on-blue, it may be better if they go into action in reverse - so they can watch what is happening behind them.
Now it transpires that Terry Lloyd, ITN news reporter, was shot by friendly fire. His jeep passed US troops, met an enemy lorry, so did a U-turn and returned. The Americans shot the jeep up. Then when the Iraqis - trying to surrender, helped him into their ambulance, the Americans opened fire again and killed him.
There are mistakes made in the heat of war - granted - but the time comes when the question has got to be asked.....

Why crawl around fields looking for landmines. If they let a herd of cows into the field they would find the mines with no danger to human life.

Is this possible from a logistical and practical standpoint being that there are 2-3 million american gun owners compared to 1.5 million active duty military personnel (even though total armed forces are about 2.5 million)? Would the people have the tactical advantage being that they are all spread out or would the government have the advantage with their superior firepower even though it only takes a single 22 caliber bullet to kill someone?

I understand that duing Vietnam War, Malaysia and Singaporearmed force actually stationed troops to Thailand near the boarder as forward observer, and to response as initial contact. Because Thailand has once allowed the Japanese to pass by them to attack Malaysia and Singapore.

But I could not find any concrete information on this topics, as it was highly sensitives, and secretive. i always wonder if it is true.

However, I happened to meet 3 Vetrens (in different time and place). They were nice people, but could not be adjusted to normal civilian lives easily anymore.

I sometime thing this may be true, but the information will never reach the membe of public.

Anyone who have any information, please share.

One of our "cheap" bombs costs @ $20,000 and it takes alot of them to be effective. Our job in Iraq is over. Shouldn't we begin to re-establish a determination to care for our elderly and disabled?

It cost Saudi Arabia $2 to produce a barrell of oil and Iran $20 to produce the same barrell of oil. If oil prices continue to fall what will happen to Iran. The royal family in Saudi Arabia is a strong ally of the U.S. as is the UAE and Kuait. Shouldn't we use our influence these countries more to help eliminate the threat they have of an extremist Iran?
