Massacre with machine guns.

The most used strategy was massed frontal attack by infantry the tank was used towards the very end of the war but its use though minimal had a huge influence in all following conflicts by making trench warfare no longer practical.
Trench warfare had no advantages to it and caused the wasteful slaughter of millions of troops on all sides engaged
Hence people say they don't want to be 'entrenched' with a problem - a useless wasteful stalemate

Basically to move Field Marshall Haig's drinks cabinet 10ft nearer to Berlin.

They used a creeping barrage (as mentioned before) but they also used other methods of artillery...sometimes a barrage which would last days...others 30 mins.
It was usually followed by everyone getting out of their trenches and walking very slowly towards the enemy. A tactic used the previous 17 times and is exactly what the enemy won't expect.

Watch Blackadder goes forth 1st episode.Spot on!!

What they did was the "creeping barrage". What that was that they fired their artillery on the enemy trench and their artillery and while the enemy was pinned down they would send their soldiers over to the enemy trench, then stop the barrage and since their soldiers were so close close they could kill the enemy very easily.
Since they didn't develop this tactic towards the end of the war the had to drag on for four bloody years.

All of it! Those trenches went down with machine guns, tanks, infantry rushes, air & land artillary, and chemical warfare (mustard gas). This led to a lot of retreat and attrition.

I don't know the details, sorry. Try this link:

Technology. Tanks and aircraft finally broke the stalemate. Both technonlogies were still primitive at the time but the expense of developing it broke the German empire.

Bomb the crap out of them with Artillary - then send troops over the top to kill anyone left alive after the bombardment.

They tried this for over four years and finally gave up because it didn't work!

Kind of reminds you of Bushs attempts to Win his war in Iraq doesn't it?????????
