This is not meant to be anti- American, but there are so many British troops being killed by blue-on-blue, it may be better if they go into action in reverse - so they can watch what is happening behind them.
Now it transpires that Terry Lloyd, ITN news reporter, was shot by friendly fire. His jeep passed US troops, met an enemy lorry, so did a U-turn and returned. The Americans shot the jeep up. Then when the Iraqis - trying to surrender, helped him into their ambulance, the Americans opened fire again and killed him.
There are mistakes made in the heat of war - granted - but the time comes when the question has got to be asked.....

OK so you are in a war zone and there is a vehicle coming at you at speed where you know there to be hostiles ,what are you gonna do.
Accidents happen mate it's unfortunate but that's the way it is.
The only thing that pissed me off was the way the Mat Hull incident was covered up until a newspaper found the truth..
If accidents happen the authorities should be open an honest ,that way this annimosity will not build up.

So a British reporter does something he is not supposed to do. The does something dumb.

And it is the Americans fault when he gets killed.

In the Gulf War - the British are unable to keep track of their own locations and as a result assure American pilots that there are no friendlies in the area - it is America's fault.

The - 10 years later the British are still unable to keep track of their own troops and make the same mistake again - you blame the Americans.

Anybody see a pattern here?

You answered your own question. If the US leaves there is the threat of civil war. No one is saying that about the British leaving. Since the coalition defeated the Iraq army and ousted the government, the British have not had much to do. They are in an area that is all Shiite. If the Brits leave, who will the Shiites fight? Answer: no one.

A large part of the blame should be layed at the UK Government's door... for not forking out for new Technology that would save these "Accidents" from occurring.... Don't Worry...seems that they are going to trial a new device - called - " Operation Ginger Wig " Prince Harry is going to be the first UK soldier to go to Iraq with a See-Through Helmet - so that American Aircraft can Spot his Orange Mop..and be able to distinguish that they are friendlies ...

Friendly fire often happens in war but what really sickens me is the amount of times it has happened. Recently one of the US troops who shot down a british plane was cleared of all charges.

He took the lives of british troops and got away scot free for his stupidity.

If someone takes a life they should pay the price.

Although regrettable, civilian who don't heed the warnings of our patrols get shot.

In the case of the ITN reporter, he failed to heed the warnings by the gunner to stay back from the convoy 100 meters. Our gunners have to act because of the threat of SVBIED's.

I hate that it happened, but our guys don't have alot of time to make life and death decisions like that.

The intresting thing on this site that the most vocal on matters of combat and the military are those that havent served their country and seem the most uneducated getting most of their info from the gutter press. As one who has served in the armed forces I would sooner have the Yanks alongside me than all your liberal european whimps.

1991. Iraq. The greatest loss of life by British troops during operation desert Storm.
9 Fusiliers killed by American tank Busters!
They just don't know when to stop!
The U.S Have probably the biggest army in the world, and probably the worst!

The guy below me should check out his facts before he opens his mouth and puts his foot in it!
A10 Tank Busters asked THEIR CONTROL for advice, and were told by THEM that no friendlies were in the area. ONE BIG YANK MISTAKE!

FrankTurk: I too served my country and I would certainly not want a Yank covering my ****!

Both sides kill their own in battle.

The Brits have attacked their own side too - it's not just the Americans.
