What do they have in common? And what happened to Rome, or what did Rome do that could happen to the US?

Pax Romana the Romans had conquered all of their opponents there was no one left to economically or militarily to challenge Roman power.

The Romans did not worry about global perception when dealing with their enemies. They dealt with opposition in a ruthless manner and gave no quarter to their enemies until they were defeated. They understood that there can be no peace without first achieving victory.

There are too many tangent threads of information that can show both the similarities and differences of both. Mostly I see what both have scrapped in one case leading to failure and in the other should be a warning.

After Rome split into two and the loss of N. Africa to the Vandals, the Western empire did not have the resources to maintain a standing army in the field to defend against the barbarian invasions. We're not ready to split into two, the nukes keep us ahead of the 'super power' pack and negate any deficiencies in military, altho i don't see any foreign army close to equaling ours. So, no, i don't see any parallels....but that's just my opinion.

As opposed to the US Americans the Romans were able to guarantee peace under their rule for the compliant people.
