I have a discharge that is uncharacterized with a reentry code 3 and narrative reason is physical condition NOT a disability. think this is OK to get hired as a law enforcement officer? The real reason i left the Army was i was immature at the time. I left my newly married wife and baby to go to the Army for a escape i did not realize what i did my wife was sad and so was i and i made a decision to go back home to support my family. The Army gave me this kind of discharg that i decribed above does anyone know if i have a good chanch getting hired as a cop or corrections officer?

C'mon now...first of all, if your going to ask a military related question, you should be straight forward and honest about the details. There's no such thing as an uncharacterized discharge...there is only honorable, other-than honorable, bad-conduct, or the big turkey dinner. And by your vague description, I don't believe that you "left the Army", I think you were released from duty due to poor suitability (whatever that may be). As for going into public service, YES... the conditions in which you were released from service will play a determining factor. Unless you recieved an "honorable" rating prescribed within your DD-214. Consider this for yourself...would you hire an individual that did serve in the military and their record reflected adversely? Besides, police officers are required to have a writing level that is comprehensive (y'know in case they have to write a report or two). You may want to consider another profession outside of Civil or Federal service.

Did you get an ELS or EPTS? Sounds like an ELS to me. The army will certainly have something in the narrative reason for separation block. Did you have a physical injury such as a blown knee or was it a "mental condition"? An ELS may be damaging to a law enforcement career an EPTS less so. I wonder if you were unable to acclimatize to military service how will you perform as a police/corrections officer?

You are going to have to explain that discharge. I've never heard of an "uncharacterized" discharge. They were Good Conduct, For The Good of the Service, Bad Conduct, and Dishonorable.

Go check with your local recruiter and find out just what you have.
If you have either of the last two, you are out of luck. "For The Good of the Service" discharge is O.K., but, like I said, you are going to have to explain it.

The military discharge could affect your application to a law enforcement agency but you can cite valid reasons to have it disregarded.

You could still get hired in law enforcement but I doubt you could be in a position that required physical activity like a 'foot' cop.

The hiring agency will most assuredly require extensive psych testing; if you pass this and meet the other requirements your discharge probably won't matter as long as it is not classified as 'dis-honorable' or 'bad conduct'.
