Great Britain had an alliance with Poland so when Germany invaded they declared war, but when the Soviet Union invaded from the East (Secret agreement by Molotov/Ribbontrop) they did not. Did Great Britain bite off more than she could chew with Soviets as well?

I'm 33 and I remember being scared in 1985 when I learned that U.S.S.R. had nuclear weapons pointed at us and we on them. I wasn't around in the 50's and Cuba Missle Crises but I've heard J.F.K.'s recordings and Robert MacNamara's retelling of events. That being said, Nuclear Proliferation is the worlds most serious issue and all the leaders in Washington, D.C. know it. I've been watching C-Span and I've heard Madiline Albright testify before congress and I got the picture. I think the Genie's out of the bottle and it's just a matter of time before one of the countries who have nuclear capabilities nuclear bombs Isreal or someone else or there's a revolution in one of these countries and the nuclear bombs fall into the hands of some crazies and they blow up the Sunnis or the Shiites or something and start Nuclear War. Am I right? How can I sleep tonight? I'm worried.

I'm thinking anywhere from 15 years minimum to 20 years maximum.Though I've never been in the military,I first tried to get in when I was 17,back in 1984.I continue to think, had I been accepted,if I'd put twenty years in unscathed I could've retired 3 years ago-at the age of 37!!!!!!!!!!!

The reality is the are sacrificing for the lies and mistakes of the BUSH REGIME. The USA often starts wars on LIES this one is no exception.

Every american life and dollar will be wasted...yet the monsters in Washington DC will never be charged with a crime.

The USA has evolved into a dangerous foolish nation...there are no blessings for your nation anymore

This question is not meant to be insensitive, but I am wondering why a mere 132 deaths for the UK, and a more significant 3000 deaths for the US is such a media focal point? In previous wars, many countries, the UK, and US included have suffered many, many times that figure of casualties, sometimes in days, and yet there was not the furore then as there is now.
I am not trying to belittle the work of the armed forces, or their efforts, but they knew the job before they signed on (except in the case of conscripts...) , are in the main intelligent people, and they knew that it was not going to be all skydiving and snowboarding like the army adverts would have us believe. Presumably their relatives, knew as well, and yet there are still people touting the deaths of loved ones as Blairs/ Bushs fault. Why? It is the soldiers job to fight. And occassionally, that means people get hurt. I value their sacrifices, but I wish the media would not keep giving us a front page kill count.
