do you think if the world was in a nuclear war today, that humanity could survive after it, or would everyone be doomed?

My father served in Vietnam and is no longer alive. I have one of his medals. The ribbon is blue with two orange stripes, and the medal itself is made out of bronze (I think). The medal is a many pointed star shape with a descending eagle, it is tarnished but I think the eagle may be holding something (a thunderbolt?).

Below is an article apparently reported by "The New Yorker".

If Iran has no nuclear weapon whatever and it is the CIA that is saying they don't - WHY on earth does the article start with White house dismisses and then ends with it wouldd't matter who won (Dems or Repub's) we'd still be looking at war with Iran?

What the hell goes through peoples heads ?
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House dismissed a classified CIA draft assessment that found no conclusive evidence of a secret Iranian nuclear weapons program, The New Yorker magazine reported.

Go long - stay longer in Iraq with gradual troop reduction.

Go big - send in significantly more troops to quell the all-out civil war to prevent it spilling over to other nations in the region. (The pentagon think there is a distinct posibility.)

Go home - obvious, no explanation needed.

Do you so-called conservatives (and the old garden variety Republican) see what Bush's hasty immature action did or do you want to wait a little longer still.

I didn't know how this free education thing worked out. I want to go to Capella for graduate school in Counseling, but it is an online school. I'm hoping I will be able to go to this school using all of my PA national guard benefits.

Does anybody know if If the army will pay for this?

and if you think it is winable, spare me your hateful nonsense and just tell me a how it is possible.
if you think america is wining, then stop reading this and pick up a newspaper.
if you think we need to " change the course" to win. then what course would we need to take.

Rangers are fine soldiers and so are the rest of the guys, absolutely. When the USA has won the war, however, they lose the peace. When I pick up a M16 I am damn sure I will shoot in my foot and I prefer that much above shooting civilains. Do you have the b...s to go in a conflict area without arms, to get scolded by the refugees ? Do you care enough to stay, when the rangers have gone ? A red cross is a poor substitute for a bullet proof vest. Am I less courageous than combatants ? Am I a coward and a liberal, while I have been on more battlefields than any ranger ? (soldiers of course, not officers )

This morning I was watching the news. I heard there is a possibility of military draft in the near future. What is the likelyhood of this happening? Will women be drafted or just men?

I told my coalition friends as I was leaving thanks.(Had some British officers on my ship for awhile) i believe it is high time for Americans to recogonize it is Not just an American War. We do to hard stuff, Yes, but any soldier lost from any nation deserves just reward.

What do you think??

Say it was USA versus China.

What defences would there be against such bombs.
Every bomb used on both sides would destroy hold cities.

So how would it be fought? With what weapons?

"Here's something that many people don't realize -- Even when the Army missed their recruiting goal for four straight months last year, they still turned away thousands of volunteers. Why? In the past 21 years, the Army (and the other services) have markedly increased enlistment standards. For example, joining with a GED used to be routine. Today, only a few get in the door with a GED.
Long, long, long before a draft would be considered, we would see the Army relax enlistment standards, allowing more recruits with GEDs, and approving more waivers for criminal history and minor medical conditions. This, alone would allow the Army to easily meet their established recruiting goals. I would hate to see this happen. Our military is the best in the world today because of our high standards. But, if a draft were implemented, standards would necessarily decrease in any case." by Rod Powers

My dad was in the Army for 24 years, he joined during Vietnam, He wasn't drafted. The stories of his basic training sound way tougher than my cousin or brothers basic training. My brother joined in 2000 and my cousin joined about 3 months ago and already finished his basic training. From what my brother tells me and what my cousin tells me, as time goes by, it sounds to me like basic training is getting soft. Appareantly my cousin says that drill seargents are not allowed to smoke or cuss at them, and they have to call them warriors or soldiers. My brother didn't have that luxuary, and I know my dad didn't either. My dad complains that they aren't warriors or soldiers till they comlete basic. Also, would it have to do with the fact that my dad and brother are both combat arms, infantry and tanker, and my cousin is some sort of accounting?
