actually the violence has been escalating, and is out of control, but a draft isn't really needed for Iraq.

the people suggesting the draft be reinstated are only using it as a political tool to prevent people in control from starting more wars.
the logic: if the people calling the shots have loved ones that have equal chance of being drafted and sent to war, the people calling the shots will be les likely to rush off to war or at least less likely to use fraudulent evidence in attempt to support another.

and when you are running your mouth on other countries in the form of threats and sanctions, it is only a good idea to make sure the draft is up and running failrly, before it is needed in desparation!

Although I hate the term 'cut and run' (even when it is used to make the point how silly it is) I will answer your question.

Yes the war is escelating, and no a draft will probably not help us avoid having to leave Iraq to someone else. Chalie Rangle's point in suggesting a draft (as he has been doing for some time) is that we cannot be this hevily militarily involved in this many places and still be capable of answering a real threat. The 20 thousand additional troops the President wants to send to Iraq will only be able to be effective for a short period of time (this per the Pentagon). Combat effectiveness and morale are down in almost all of our combat units including the National Guard units. Donald Rumsfeld's goal of a leaner, meaner military has proven to be unrealistic. President Bush's war has left the military stretched far too thin. Even now though, many citizens are using the nonsensical reasoning that if we pull out all of those lives lost will have been for nothing. We had this same discussion in Viet Nam. Our President then chose to continue sending troops. When all was said and done the net effect was to lose tens of thousands more lives for nothing. Spending more lives will not make this war any more reasonable. The outcome is not going to change.

You make an excellant point. Eventually we must realize that losing more lives will not make the sacrifice be for something.

No. The war is not "escalating out of control." This is the most bloodless conflict we have ever been involved in. And we are achieving all our strategic goals. Any claims to the contrary is overblown rhetoric. You'll also find that if you look into it, that those making the statements cannot back it up with facts, just emotional appeals.

A draft is not needed. Patience is needed. Resolve is needed. Faith in us as warriors is needed. A draft would demolish our professional military. In addition there is no connection between a draft and "cut and run." In fact, institutin a draft is a ploy to achieve cut and run, it's proponent, Charlie Rangel, has said so.

Your a fool... there became into no conflict in Iraq and no communicate of conflict in Iraq till now 9/11. confident, jet gas can truthfully soften steel, undeniable wood can. right this is a physics lesson for you. ANY mass can triumph over yet another mass with sufficient speed. How approximately you movechronic a motor vehicle into your place or brick wall? Aluminum going rapid sufficient can wreck steel. style how a LEAD bullet (very gentle, vulnerable steel) can punch via extremely some varieties of armour or count number, and that i'm no longer even speaking approximately AP bullets. Kevlar is extraordinarily damn stressful, yet lead bullets can over come that in the event that they're super or rapid sufficient. Iraq became into no longer straight away in contact with 9/11. yet confident, Iraq became right into a terrorist state and we are at the instant coping with terrorism.

The War is probably moving in a direction unforseen at the onset, but I don't think the reasoning behind the DRAFT threat has much to do with that

Instead of reinstating the draft, the U.S government should bring more international peace keeping troops into Iraq and reduce the number of U.S troops in Iraq.

A draft would not avoid a cut and run decision. The new troops
could not be ready in time.

I think the reasoning behind them thinking of holding a draft is because they feel the fight is being unfairly fought by our poor and minorities
