do you think if the world was in a nuclear war today, that humanity could survive after it, or would everyone be doomed?

I think it very likely that some people will survive. We have a great track record of tolerating and adapting to some pretty extreme conditions. I expect there are some secret hideaways that would even allow a few folks to survive a "nuclear winter" scenario, and start repopulating without the technology. Obviously, any less serious scenario will allow even more flexibility for means of survival. Right now, today, I do not believe there is a practical possibility of more than two nuclear devices being detonated -- those few who might be otherworldly enough to use them do not, praise Allah and thank God, have the means to use more. The tragic military, political, economic, and environmental consequences would immediately and eventually kill tens of millions of people, perhaps hundreds of millions, and alter the conditions of life for the billions remaining.. but "billions remaining" is a great lot of survivors to be tolerating and adapting to conditions. We'll manage.

A full scale nuclear exchange would cause 1.1 billion souls to be lost in the first 30 minutes, mostly in the US, Europe, Russian, China and Japan. Another 1 billion will die soon after in the radioactive fallout. The Northern Hemisphere will be plunged into prolonged agony and barbarity.

The nuclear winter will eventually spread to the southern hemisphere. Carl Sagan estimated the threshold to nuclear winter was very low...around 100 megatons of nuclear detonations, mostly from the fires that they would've caused.

Can humanity survive the nuclear winter? Those in deep shelters with water and provisions for two or more years, or islands and canyons aways from the main jet streams, with small populations and renewable plant/animal life, may survive. So i would say, some would survive, but the rest of us are doomed.

May I remind you of the Hiroshima and Nagasaki incident in Japan, during World War two muclear weapons were weak. If a bomb could cause so much death and doom, what do you think twenty times stranger Nuclear Weapons will do, after determining that, decide for yourself whether or not Nuclear Weapons would cause utter destuction. I recommend you find information on the Nagasaki and Hiroshima incidents, i'm pretty sure that'll answer your question.

Hillary, Obama, and McCain are the only candidate who will confront nuclear war with other nations. Obama plans to invade Iran, or Pakistan, while Hillary labels Iran and Syria as terrorists, while McCain wants troops in Iraq for years, and confront Iran, Russia, China, and Syria for useless reasons. That said, if you want a candidate who will avoid nuclear war with others, consider Ron Paul. He has been the only candidate willing to use the Constitution with the advice of the Founders, trade, honest friendship, and diplomacy with all. He even has the support of the former CIA chief, Michael Scheurer, who says it has been only Ron Paul that mentions our ill-policy towards others, and the result of blowback. Take care.

The world would crack like an egg after only a handful of explosions in the right places. NOBODY should have nuclear bombs. They are just too dangerous.

Nope..... If anyone is stupid enough to shoot off the first one (my money is on Iran nuking Israel)... that will be the end for all of us.

Do you realize that just one US sub has more firepower (nukes) on it than all the bombs used in WW2? And at any given time there are about 8 of them patrolling the worlds oceans just waiting to get the order to start fling Trident missiles at the target they are given.

I am terrified that Iran is going to kill us all. They are evil.
