I want to move to either Miami, South Beach or the Keys. I have 52 college hours completed (towards CJ) and currently live in Texas. I am 26 years old if it matters.
My question is if either Miami PD, Monroe County Sherffs dept, or Miami-Dade Sheriffs dept. (or any others) have their own academy?
I have no idea how Florida works in terms of law enforcement.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Are the motorway police allow to reverse up the hard shoulder of a motorway for 250yrads, purely to get back to a slip road, no emergency or any other reason that can be seen, they were however using their blue lights.
I thought it was illegal to reverse on the motorway, even for the police.

I live in KY but last week I got a speeding ticket in Charleston, WV. Does anyone know the laws regaurding traffic school and if it will help my driving record? I haven't paid the ticket yet, I am still unsure what to do. I don't care to pay the fine, I just don't want my insurance to raise. Would it be better to simply pay it by mail, or show up on my court date and talk to the judge. This is my first ticket, I was only going 66, and they caught me when the speed limit goes from 65 to 55mph. I was slowing down before I saw the speed trap:( Thanks for any help you can offer.

I know this is more of a legal question, but I've come across someone who was sexually assaulted, became angry after it was over, and shot someone who later died. This happened years ago so no they didn't call the police or call someone for help, etc., they just acted out of anger. However they insist they were not shooting to kill, just to injure because of what happened. He has been charged with murder. Wouldn't it be a lesser charge like negligent homicide or manslaughter or something that carried a lesser sentence? This was in Texas if it makes a difference...

has been all over the news and it shows this cop tazering the woman even though she can't stand up and wasn't fighting or creating big problems until after she'd been tazers several times and then claims she was in fear for her life. How would you react? She admits she was drunk and if the prosecutor's words are correct, she was so drunk she was 3 times over the Ohio legal limit. Wouldn't that put her in the realm of incoherent and unable to follow directions and in need of assistance? What should be done about tazers?

I looked it up on Florida's website
http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?StatuteYear=2006

I cannot find the actual law. I found something about a private citizen can make an arrest if ordered buy another peace officer. Then that citizen has the same rights as that officer when assisting.

But I was told by local county and state LEO's, after making some phone calls that a private citizen, not sworn as an LEO, can make an arrest without prior authorization, if the citizen is witnessing an individual commiting a felony. Then that individual must go by the code of conduct to make a adequate arrest listed under FL Code.

I cannot find this part in the code. Can anyone help? Also, if I run into a person and have it confirmed they have a warrant issued for their arrest, can a private citizen also place them under arrest because of that.

Can I please have some serious answers to this question. Thanks.

What I mean is should we allow groups or bands of people to act as vigilantes? Do you think that would curb crime rates?

For instance, a group dedicated to go after rapists or murderers...

Imagine like a 24 hour of street justice prior to being turned over to official authorities.

Would something like this work?

I live on the boundry between two counties in Montana. There seems to be some type of war going on between a police dept and the judges of the county in the next county to where I live . It is so bad that many people who are in the surrounding counties won't even drive through that area unless they are forced to. The police are fighting with the judges and eveyone is angry. Because of where I live the two counties kind of share the responsiblity of policing here. It is causing no end of problems for us. Any suggestions. We who live here are scared that it is going to turn into some kind of turf war between this county and that one. It is very complicated. We are in the middle of it all.

Some drug dealers moved in across the street about a year ago. Yesterday on my lunch hour I went home for lunch and noticed a group of about 8 people outside smoking marijuana with two smaller children approx. age 12-13. I called police but they basically told me they would have to catch them in the act. They couldn't just go there and barge in on them. I went to police station last night furious. Basically they told me the same thing. They will patrol the area more and try to catch them in the act. I looked on public records today found the owner of the house that the drug dealers are renting. What are some effective ways you can think of for ridding drug dealers out of your neighborhood? Also, other neighbors have complained as well, but nothing seems to be getting done. However, the owner claims they will do everything in their power to get them out of the house. Any tips?

My partner is beginning the fun process of becoming a DEA agent. She'll be going to training, etc., but I was wondering how they choose your location once you are done. She thinks they give you an open choice of 3 states and they try to put you in one of those three. I can't imagine it's that easy, otherwise everyone would be in states like Hawaii and California. Anyone have any idea how they choose?

Dear All, I got my H1-B approved visa from USCIS this summer and applied refund for Premium Process fee. The refund check was issued and sent to my lawyer 3 weeks ago. Even though my visa case was closed and I made the whole payment to my lawyer few months ago, my lawyer suddenly emailed me a expense statement 2 weeks ago and said that I have to make the rest payment in order to get the refund. Is there any way I can deal with this mean lawyer? Thank you very much for your sharing.

I went on a field trip with my daughter and the mom who was driving had to blow into a machine before she could start her car. She said that one of the people who is insured on her car has to use it, so everyone does. Is that true? She said the person got a DUI about ten years ago, and never took care of it. She then said, "I don't want to say who it is, because I don't want to embarrass anyone." I found that kind of odd.

Is it a coincidence or is she onto something?
