Young men are in jail not just because they are Hot headed.

They feel trapped and have no one to turn to so they run to the streets: the sex, gangs, violence and drugs. Most of the parents are to young to be parents and still want to live life.
And in a positive case parents are out working and trying to support.

There is racial profiling, negative influences, and the list goes on.
It may be a funny issue for some of you and something not to have a real opinion on, but that alone is just another reason why young males are in jail.
Really think about it

Most of the people in jail are young for one very simple reason. Younger people feel like there is nothing they can do to change their situation. They become desperate and rash. This results in poor choices and ultimately a trip to the pokey.

Sadly most young people don't really think about what they really have to lose before they commit a crime that lands them in jail.

i read through the answers and agree with a few. younger people are in jail because of the "invincible" attitude that most have. oh i can do this, " it wont happen to me". but what a shock it is when they do get caught. i'm sure thats why so many crty big crocodile tears when i slap the cuffs on em. lol

obviously there are exceptions, but for the most part one matures as they get older. more apt to think of the consequences of "bad" behavior. so better choices are made.

this is a little off topic, but i totally disagree with the one poster that drug use is a victimless crime. the more one uses the more they have to use to get that same "high". drugs cost money. okay so when little jane and johnny parents are tired of them stealing money from them. doesnt mean they instantly stop using. they still need money so where do they get the money? little jane starts selling that cootie cat. johnny? oh johhny in coming in your living room window to get your dvd player. why do you think pawn shops ask so much info? so they know who to look for when certain things are reported stolen. look at any neighborhood where crime is obviously high. you dont have just one problem ie drugs sales or prostitution. no its both in addition to burglary, robbery and auto theft.

just so you all know, "expensive" neighborhoods have the same problems. the rich just have more money to hire better lawyers that keep their dirt under wraps thats all. rest assure it all comes out tho.

pardon my outburst..lol. no what was i saying? oh yea young people. most young are in jail becuase of bad choices due to mininmum life experience. so are just plain ole bad apples.

Most crimes are committed by that particular demographic. Even the ones in jail who are older are more likely to have committed their offense when they were in their early 20's. Statistics show that once prisoners reach about 30, they are much less likely to offend. It has to do with maturity, both of the brain itself and of the thought processes.

Because young guys have poorer judgment than anybody else. Good judgment comes from experience, and, as Will Rogers pointed out, that often comes from poor judgment. He also pointed out that some people listen to the experience of others, and some people have to pee on the electric fence themselves. I bet you know some people like that, and I bet they're largely young men.

Depends on the place..

Slum - Good chances

Suburbs - Probably just an overnight for a misdemeanor..

Maybe the cops in your place (if this question is specific to your area) like to go for the young kids that aren't bigger than them or more intimidating..

Cops are still intimidated, they have a lot of defense but they aren't invincible during their shift..

Because the older guys have already done their time and got smarter. They either went straight or learned not to get caught.
