Why do the Police still insist that you identify yourself by giving them a phone number so they can call you if they can't find the address you have given them??

Because of my father, who is now in jail, my house was raided. They took anything illegal as well as his dmv papers (pink slip, registration) We now need to sell the car because it is a manual and no one in my house knows how to drive one.fyi his car had nothing to do with the charges against him. So does anyone know how i would go about getting the dmv records back? or can i get it back?

The majority of answers went with killing the assailant, for various reasons, but in my local paper this morning I read a case of someone being attacked by someone else and he was fined £700 for `over-reacting` and injuring the attacker!!

What would happen if the police asks you your name and you tell him, "If I tell you my name will I have entered into contract with you?" again and again, and same with the judge in court.

Can Indian police Change their behavior. Example- Today, 06/27/07 I was watching Indian news channel and one news surprise me that, in Bombay, a goon had raped a disable girl. The neighbors didn't help that girl and the rapist run away. I also saw, people were just standing there and it look like that they were watching juggler show. Police were taking lightly the whole matter. I am living in the united states, and the people always talk India is growing very fast. But, I think it is useless, where people are not safe. when will that time come, when cops will do their work, in all over the India? When they will be on time at the incident spot?

A father stabs his son once at 4am, son goes to hospital with his sister, father takes off, son is inn the hospital and has to get flown out to another hospital....family members tell officers they dont know anything about what happened. Son, the victim, doesnt tell the cops anythins at all...someone has told the cops what happened. But I am not sure who told anything because we, who were there did not say anything. Father is in jail, cant come back to the community waiting for bail hearing and sentencing??...what do you think he'll get maximum or minimum?

Two kids, real dirt balls, who don't care if they get into trouble or not, continually threaten a beat down on my two other brothers, and potentially anyone else hanging out with us. I'm not a top target, but if I'm with my brothers and they attack, they will undoubtedly target me too. However, without engaging in a full out battle against, most probably just these two kids, what other options or alternatives can we take. I know calling the police is the best thing, but the fight would be over in a few minutes, with someone probably severely hurt, maybe even dead. Cause they are dirty, they might pull a gun and/or knife, etc. How can we defend ourselves? Let's say they come up to us and start shouting stuff like "Come on, let's do this!" And then one starts pushing and swinging, are we allowed to attack in defense? Also, when the cops come and break the tussle apart, who would be charged criminally? What charges would be charged? Any other routes to take?

Stupid question but sincerely appreciate anyone who can help it. My friend used his former employer's UPS account to mail a package to me several months ago. I got the call from a private investigator or security dept of his former employer inquiring the sender's info b/c they cant find the true info about the sender based on UPS record. My friend is not in the US now. He is a good/sweet person. I called him up and he said he should not have used it for personal use after leaving that private company. He was so scared if they are going to put it into trail or give him any political/credit record. He said he totally used it no more than 10times and in total the charge should be below $400. He will stay oversea for half year and swear that he will never use this again.
I don't know whether I should tell my friend's info to either private investigator or the security dept. what happens to me if I dont tell him? My friend also use this account to mail back stuff to some stores.

Just curious on your thoughts. In our town we have lost 18% of our population in the past 8 years yet the Police force has increased by 5 new officers.
I noticed when I got back to the office today that there were 2 police cars pulled behind the school next to our building, they were parked under a tree drinking coffee, when I left at 3 pm..they were still there, same guys laughing & joking around (must be nice) I live 11 miles away, when leaving the office complex I passed two other city cops in cars, when I got on a short trip on the Highway (3 miles) I saw a State cop doing radar and less than a 1/2 mile away a county sheriff car doing radar on the other side. With private sector job loss at all time highs in our state & city and losing people by the thousands why would they increase public severants, crime is down in our State 9% & 7% in our city. I know Police don't prevent crimes...they react to them so they don't make the rates go down.

I would appreciate your thoughts.

Me and my brother were sitting on our own property smoking some nice dominican cigars when two sheriff patrol cars pull up and come out. Make us put our hands up, had to drop my cigars which was ruined. WTF they make us do that for we didn't even do anything and they made us put our hands up? They had no respect, taunted us and **** for example "Put your hands up or I'll ******* shock your ***" as he pointed a tazer at us. and "What they **** are you guys doing?" Gdamn pigs, wtf did they think we were doing? We were minding our own business, having a relaxing cigard ON OUR OWN PROPERTY. I think they had no reason to react like they did.

We were armed with knives and they bitched to us about that and how its bad and stuff. We were out there late at 3 am we wanted protection, and so what? We're on our property there's no reason for them to give us lip about that.

my best friend lives in st. louis missouri, i've known him for 5 years, on spring break i went to visit him when i got back i talked with him on the everyday, the last time i talked to him was the morning of April 23rd, he had to go to court that morning(back in dec. he robbed a 7-11) he's 17 and my mom says they could have put him in jail till the next court date which was on june 18th, i still havent heard anything, and i seen he has to go to court again on aug. 13th, my mom also said she heard if the court continues a case , the 3rd time they have to throw it out, i havent heard from him and nobody there has seen him, so im just wondering if there is any way i can find out if my buddy is in jail or not.

So within the last year or so, I've been pulled over a couple times, each in a diferent city, and given tickets for speeding and expired registration. I've been meaning to take care of it, but things keep coming up (my father died, I was robbed, lost scholarships), and I just haven't been able to start on it. I started getting letters that I have warrants out for my arrest, and that I need to pay. What would be the fastest and most inexpensive way to deal with this? I need to sleep peacefully, and I don't know if I should get a lawyer, or just pay the fines for the warrants (which I can't even afford right now), or what...

I posted a question about this yesterday, but didn't quite get the answers I was looking for. In a nutshell, financial problems in my over 6 year relationship caused so much tension that my hubby was arrested for spousal abuse (even though I was what I consider a participant, not an innocent victim as I am being stereotyped as), and now he faces a new conviction because of 2 of our previous neighbors making false statements saying they witnessed a fight between us that never even happened. And no matter what proof I bring to the DA, she won't drop the charges. The first conviction was bad enough, but this new one, because of the prior, could possibly send him away for 1 to 5 years! It is so wrong for the DA's and judges and police to assume they know if someone is a abuser or mindless victim without hearing all the facts. Instead of innocent until proven guilty, DV arrestees are guilty PERIOD! And rarely get off even with clear evidence of innocense. Any input, web links, resources?
