This is in Ramsey County Minnesota. The mother has no violent crime history, and is a felon due to the fact that there was crystal meth in her car when they arrested her for shoplifiting some chicken salad from a grocery store. She has horrible ADD, like I have never seen or heard of, truly, she can't recall or focus on ANYTHING. Anyhow, she needs a good long treatment, not to be thrown into a population of other felons, which is totally proven to not help her in any way as far as I have ever read or seen. The parole officer is an angry-seeming bloke who is hell-bent on putting her behind bars. She is an IV drug user as of a few months ago, having moved it up from smoking meth for years past. What is goofy is that he wants her in jail first, then treatment. HELP

If he stays at our place and goes out at night without our knowledge (we're sleeping) and gets hurt or does something illegal, would I, myself, as the girlfriend be held legally liable? Please help - this is a major problem with my boyfriend and me - and his son is coming to stay this weekend. He's 14 and already has been getting into minor, but still, trouble.

Does it really PREVENT crime?? Let it all hang out, here are some of my thoughts:
1) Government-sponsored Dial-A-Prayer
2) Something to let the police know where the dead bodies of crime victims can be found.
3) Something to make sure all the icky blood and shell casings are picked up after stopping for doughnuts and coffee.
4) Something to make anti-gun liberals feel like they have a chance of surviving. "I will shake this phone at you vigorously if you don't leave!"
5) A 1-900 number for people who get off seeing fire engines and police cars.
6) Obviously, a place to call and complain about poor fast food service. (Happened in CA, I kid you not!)

Especially in light of all the recent news about real calls being ignored and pretty callous behavior on the part of operators. Do we really need it? If it will not prevent crime, then why not just have folks call the station house directly....

I was leaving a traffic light in my Charger R/T which has Traction Control and accelerated much faster than anyone else. Once I got to the speed limit I set the cruise. The officer pulled me over and I had no idea what I did wrong. He procedeed to tell me that he had to go 100 to catch up with me. I told him I set the cruise at the speed limit. Then he said that 'my tires broke' when I pulled off the light. It was wet and raining. Unfortunately I was driving under a suspended license, so I HAVE to get the stop thrown out. Any ideas?

Thanks

My girlfriend of over a year (almost 18) has been mentally and physically abused by her mom since she was in 8th grade. I personally believe her mom has a borderline personality disorder. Shes an A/B student, plays varsity soccer, and holds down two jobs. Her family is very wealthy and her father is completely unassociated with the family. I am a fairly normal 18 guy, I am a freshman at University of Wisconsin Milwaukee studying Psychology, I am a pool director for a sports club, and am a well rounded person. Her mother hates me, she hates the fact that her doughter is in love and wont go to her for help anymore. Shes tried extremely hard to break us up. She even attempted to file a restraining order against me. I have done nothing wrong. She went so far as to send her to this wilderness survival boot camp for troubled teens. When she called social services they said that she was the problem and that they already spoke with her mom. Her mom is extremely manipulative. Now shes there..

Apparently, our prisons are overcrowded and under-funded. With some of our services now coming from abroad, would it be more economical to have prisons built and run in, say, eastern or central Europe, for the housing of British criminals? Would it mean less overcrowding and associated problems? Would it deter some crime? Would this help our economy and that of the other countries involved? This does not refer to permanent deportation, just serving a sentence in a different country.
