My parents live in a relatively small city -- about 25,000 people. There is a small independent telephone company which dominates the city -- for some reason no other carriers can offer service in this city? Anyways, what it boils down to is absolutely monopolistic prices on basic services like Internet access. This independent telephone company keeps buying out all the startup Internet companies so consumers have no other choice but to use the telephone company's internet service. My parents are paying $20/month for a dialup account -- DSL (750k/750k yuck!) is available for three months at a price of $25/month each month, then it jumps back to the normal price of $80/month. It's freaking ridiculous. The cities about 10 miles away are serviced by large scale companies (AT&T, MCI) which offer DSL (3.0M/896k) for $25/month. What can they do about this monoploy? It's 2007 -- $20/month for dialup or $80/month for slow DSL is ridiculous!

Well...I've thus far conducted an unsuccessful IT job hunt. Traces back to June 2006.
-4 years military(network engineering)
-AA Degree
-Multiple Certifications
Many Hands on Classes Cisco/Windows
-In the begining...I missed one crucial opening coz of greedy..
"Recruiting Company Tactics"...Nailed interview...they negotiated much lesser pay for less qualified candidate without my knowledge and that slipped..
-6-7 month break to recoup transportation and pay bills.
-Back in market 2 months now.
-My competency level is FAR above average but I can't help but feel there is some "racial/cultural" invisible wall to it..S.Calif...amongst other factors
-US born-Africa raised.
-Interviews nailed..interviewers acknowledge as much(up to 80% of the time)..they don't when you suck...
-I realize that at this time my strategies are a vicious circle that has no solution...direct company applications...resume spreading...yadi yada....
-visibly less qualified fellaz no probz hired quick..

Two people I know were arrested for criminal child abuse (the 8 mnth old nearly died because of it), posession of illegal drugs, bringing drugs over state lines, selling illegal drugs, etc. The woman was bailed out, but her bf is still being held in the county jail. The two will be tried together, but plead not guilty, despite evidence and witnesses statements.

The woman keeps putting off the trial date. I don't know what her first excuse was, but this last time her lawyer "had to be in another county," so neither of them showed without giving advanced notice. The trial has been put off another couple of weeks, but now she's bragging she's going to keep putting it off for two more years.

I don't know if they've waived their right to a speedy trial, but the man has been in jail since their arraignment. How much time has to pass before they'll let him go? He could get outon bail, but no one has paid it.

Can she put off the trial that long? What will happen if she does do it?

In the last few minutes, a poster asked whether the dems, and leftists were using "Bushbashing" as a smokescreen. I attempted to answer that question, and before I was finnished, it was removed. Without one word of profanity, malice, vulgarity, intimidation, condesention, or even sarchasm, I was erased. Any thoughts?

I'm just wondering because I'v kept a baseball bat under my bed for about 2 months now, since I saw someone or something in the garden at 3AM.
It occured to me today that it probably isn't the best choice of weapon to use in my home because of the narrow passages leading from some of the rooms I might not be able to get a good swing.
Also....A baseball bat to the face would more than likely cause permanent damage or death, in Britain, the burglar has more rights than the tennant/home owner in most cases.
I would get a guard dog, but I live in rented accomodation and I'm not allowed any pets.

I took my truck in because it was overheating the mechanic said that it should only be about a hundred dollors to replace a few hoses. I was fine with that and left it to him. He then called saying that when he looked closer that there were other problems that needed to be fixed that he was unaware of. I asked him how much the repairs would cost he said he'd have to call me back. He called me back and said that it would be 345 and if I would like them to do the job, I said go ahead and do it. Today when I get there his counter person tells me it's going to cost 427 they miscalculated something and since the job had already been done I had to pay that amount. I asked them to return the car to it's orginal state since I did not okay the new total. The counter person said that he couldn't do that so I was basiclly stuck with this bill. Lucky for me my persistance paid off and I was able to leave paying the orginal amount I was quoted. How do I prevent it from happening again.

i dont know how many ppl got this email and i dont know if its true here i copyed and pasted

The Plant City Living Center has told Mrs. Arnold, an 85-year-old grandmother in Florida, that federal law prohibits her from displaying any religious words or items associated with Christmas in the common area of her apartment building.

According to the Center, The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) issued a directive banning "any religious symbols or religious words associated with Christmas." Under the guidelines issued by HUD, the elderly grandmother cannot place a small Christmas tree outside her door (because that area is a "commons area") if it contains any religious symbols or religious words, even an angel!

If the residents want to have a Christmas party in their Community room, they cannot call it a Christmas party. The Center says HUD directs residents not to use the word "Christmas" but to use the word "Holiday."

is this true?

Prisons are mean, tough places. Whenever someone new enters a cellblock or ward they are immediately confronted by one of the prison warlords or gang leaders. This is done so that there are no illusions as to who holds authority inside. If it is a new inmate coming into the area, rent will be extracted. Rent is the fee an individual must pay in order to stay protected. This can be anything from paying a cigarette a day to the gang leader, making beds, cleaning up, running errors or becoming a homosexual pet to someone or a crew. Usually, at one point or another an inmate will affiliate with one group or another. The alternative is to fight, always having to watch your back.
