I think it's horribly STUPID. >_< The 12(13?)-year-old girl simply hugged two of her friends, not guys mind you, and got two days of detention for it! WTF?! All because it's considered a "public display of affection". I am so sick of this crap, if they want to make stupid policies like that shouldn't the parents get a say in it? Some schools will give out condoms and birth control without informing the parents that they're doing it, but you're not allowed to hug someone in school?! WTH is this world coming too? O_O

I was surprised when the no hugging rule was on the news. Our schools have had that rule for the past 3 years. No hugging allowed or any physical contact but people still hug and the majority of teachers don't mind.
I think it's crazy.
What happened to "hugs not drugs"?
People are taking things too far. Instead of focusing on bigger issues that are affecting young kids today they are wasting their time on banning hugs.
What about solving problems with drugs, alcohol, depression, and abuse first and then we can worry about hugging.

There is nothing inherently wrong with hugging in school, no matter how irritating jr. high girls can be. If it causes her to be late to class or impedes others from navigating the hallway so that they can get to class on time, it is a problem. She just needs to watch the clock and stay out of the would-be punctual people's way. Then she can hug at will.

PDA (public display of attention) has been banned where I live for years. The kids got too carried away with it and ruined the spirit of the whole thing. Hugs went further than they were supposed to. There were also unwanted hugs.

I just hope that the students learn the appropriate lesson about authority figures. Perhaps they should protest with a hug-in.
