that a gay person can be fired from their job, just because they are gay and that in most states they are not protected?

African Americans and Women used to face this same discrimination, but people have realized that it is unfair to them based upon these things, why is it still ok to discriminate against homosexuals?

Is it true that some schools have an exemption to the self-defense law, saying that if you are in school and when someone attacks you then you try to defend yourself instead of running away then you will still be punished for it? Everyone in my school tells me that but I don't know whether its true or not. Is that really a law?

There are several questions I raise about the death penalty, and this goes for both those who support it and those who oppose it.

1st: The excuse of "if you do x, y, and/or z, you deserve to die". While that can be used to justify the death penalty, it also brings into question, "why do we put limitations on what the state can do to them?" Based on the rationale, we could bring back the gallows, or instate burning, gassing, garroting, or the such "because they deserve it".

2nd: The United States is one of several countries that still have the death penalty. With that said, we're one of the few countries that uses it regularly. Perhaps we could find a medium, a short few crimes that is punishable by capital punishable by capital punishment? Already on the table, as far as I'm concerned, are multiple murder, kidnapping and rape, meaning both serial and repeated offense. Someone can be framed, but not for some 10 different cases, that's unbelievable to me. Also, shouldn't there be

Because of an issue, I paid my September rent late. My landlord tells me 2 days ago that he lost the money order I gave him. According to him, he searched and searched his office and cannot find it. I know he has it because I have the carbon copy and he told me he had received it after I left it in his mail slot on the 15th.

At any rate, I want to know who is at fault here. My landlord wants me to go back to the Currency Exchange where I got the money order and get a replacement. I can't do that until 45 days after date of purchase (That's what the carbon copy says) and my landlord wants his money now.

If you ask me, I already paid so it's his fault he lost my money. I don't know what to do and I do not want to pay double rent.

Part of me thinks he is trying to double-dip. He hasn't tried in the past and this is the third time I've paid with a money order and not just cash. 1st time I've had a problem with him losing my money. Any ideas? Thanks in advance (-:

For me, it seems only logical that if you can ask a young man or woman to go and fight and risk their lives for the country, they should be able to enjoy a beverage at home with their friends and family.

However lowering the drinking age can only do more harm than good.

Many countries have no legal age for drinking but they don't have some of the issues we have. Maybe it's because there is a difference between cultures and societies.

What do you think?

I'm going to write an articule in school about police using the Tasers the way that they do. 240 people have died since the police force have gotten there tasers. Is there really a reason for this? The taser is supost to be an alternitive to guns and or pepper spray but I feel that this isn't the case. It's used as a weapon to instill fear in people. I'm pretty sure everyone has gotten them selves shocked at one point in there life. So we all know what it feels like. But imagine what it would be to have 50000 volts of eltricity going through your veins, to have you bodie give on you and not be able to move. Everyone has an intsinive fear of electrcution and the police are playing on that. These tazers are not used to make the world a better place they are used to force us into submission. Just the other day a friend of mine was telling me about a special ed girl that got Tazerd becasue she was getting "voilent". There are other means to get the girl to settle down.

About out judicial system, jury of our 'peers', the wheels of justice and what Mark Twain said about not wanting to be judged by anyone who wasn't smart enough to get out of jury duty?

This (unnamed) jurors comment chills me.

I believe a jury is a good thing but, i think they should actually be trained on how to anlyze, think critically, be objective & dispell prejudice. But is that even possible?

It was a hung jury and a mistrial was declared, but this (unnamed) juror will potentially judge another trial.

Our office receives our water bill and then bills us. Our 1st bill was $45 (1 yr ago). We thought it was steep, but we paid it. The next was close to $50. Every month it got a little higher. In January, it was $60. We called the office who said someone will come check for leaks. Two months later, they finally checked, there was no leak. The bills kept getting higher. Some of our neighbors were paying about the same and some were paying $15 - $25 (even with a washing machine which we did not have at the time). Just after receiving our last bill ($79), someone came to fix our meter, which they discovered was not working correctly, along with 60 other units. I just called the office to see if we would be reimbursed for over paying, and they said our next bill should be less, but that would be it. And, we still have to pay the $79. If we over paid a minimum of $20 per mo, that's at least $240. I can't afford a lawyer, so what can I do to get my money back?

My soon to be husband and I only just met but when you know, you know.......we both have our own things and he said it would be a good idea if we wrote something up stating what was to be done in case of so that exes and family couldnt come in and shove me out of his home he would want me to stay in, etc.
Can that be done by us or will it have to be notorized or ran by a lawyer to be binding? We both hate the thought of, well lets just say someone taking everything from both of us because we didnt do it right. Thanks.

I heard a soundbyte on the radio of Mike Gravel (I think) saying that he is glad that he "stuck it to the credit card companies" when he declared personal bankruptcy back in the 80's. He left about 80K of debt. Anyone know where I could find it?
