Go to www.nolo.com
Nolo invented self-help law 36 years ago. They turn the law into plain English, and offer books, software, and downloadable forms for every area of the law.

To learn more about Nolo, and why they were started, go to:

If your situation does not apply, at least you will be better informed as to what you need to do.

They also have a lawyer directory, so you may find a lawyer in your area you can afford.

When dealing with IRS you cannot afford NOT to get a lawyer. You would not do your own surgery, so do not attempt to be your own attorney, especially when dealing with the IRS. The IRS is not a place where amateurs can win. If you think you cannot afford an attorney now, wait until the IRS gets done with you. Protect yourself and your future, hire an attorney.

Difficult position - some law firms will do pro bono (for the public good) work free of charge, but if you are making too much to qualify for legal aid, they may also feel you are making too much to donate their services. At times lawyers take on cases on a contingency basis - their fee comes out of the settlement you get - but that's unlikely with an IRS case.
Jonny's offer sounds good - and it sounds as though he knows what he is doing.
Hope it works out for you.
