I work for a university, and noticed on my paystub that they are paying me for 40 hours when I only worked 12. I called the department and they insist that they didn't make an error. So do I just keep the money?

I think the person who made the mistake is afraid to admit it, for fear of getting in trouble.

My husband and I are going through divorce and my attorney needs him to sign & notarize a waiver of service. He sent me the form and it did not have his signature on there but it had the notary's signature and stamp. Is this illegal and can legal action be taken? If so, what are the options? Please help.

More details - This is complicated. I am a great asset to the company. The boss likes me and my sales travel actually takes me the 1000 miles to my Fiance' once a month. My boss might be happy and say great - we need more coverage in that area, or he could say no more travel to that area, or worse your fired. Any experience appreciated!

What's the difference between redefining a marriage and redefining a citizen???

Bush claims that "renegade judges are redefining marriage (which is traditionally defined as a union between one man and one woman) as a way to promote gay marriage". He sees this as a bad thing. Our US Constitution, however, doesn't have an opinion on the matter either way.

BUT...When Bush signed "Connor's Law" into effect, what he did was redefine citizen to include fetuses. Our own US Constitution doesn't even do this. Fetuses are now granted rights under the Constitution. Most noticeably the right to life.

Isn't it hypocritical of our President to support one redefinition but not another???

I'm wondering what the next step is going to be. Remember how Bush wanted to amend the Constitution to ban gay marriages and that didn't go thru? I'm wondering what's going to happen next? Possibly an attempt to amend the 1st Amendment to read "Born, Naturalized, or Conceived by Citizen Parents".

Hello, I live in the state of TN. A former landlord has served us with papers referencing back rent and damages, as well as lawyer fees. I have a few questions because I am not at all familiar with the court procedure or what to do.

1. Is it legal for him to include his lawyer fees in the amount he is seeking in the state of TN? I had read something that stated it wasn't, but that may have been inaccurate or referring to another state.

2. If we owed him appx $100.00 dollars when we moved out, but he kept our entire deposit which was $650.00, how can he be suing us for "back rent"?

3. The house was incredibly damaged when we moved in, including light fixtures being torn from the ceiling and an incredible roach infestation that we had to deal with until we moved once the lease was up. Unfortunately we did not take pictures due to our inexperience in these matters. The point being that any damage done to the house was far before we moved in, and I don't think he can have "proof" that we caused any of it. We had asked him multiple times to fix certain things, such as our back door coming completely away from the frame of the house and having to be pushed back in every time we used that door, which he never did fix. Can we be charged for these "damages" with no proof?

4. The papers filed against us gave no specific dollar amount or damages he is claiming. I thought that any papers served had to have the specific amount and damages that he is seeking. Is that correct? The total just says "less than $25,000.00", which I am assuming is the small claims limit.

5. I also read in several documents that he is required to mail us notification of any damages he asseses as well as the amount he estimates will be necessary to fix them before taking us to court, which he never did. These papers are the first we have heard of him since we moved out over a month ago. He also never sent us any documentation about what our deposit was specifically used for, since we did not receive any of it back. He also never provided the location of his seperate deposit account in which he keeps tenant's deposit money (as I read he is supposed to in the Landlord/Tenant act). Can I bring this information up in defense?

6. Despite having our phone numbers as well as the last known mailing address, we never heard from this man. I also read that he is supposed to make an effort to collect anything he feels he is owed, a "demand", before pursuing legal action. As I said before, this is the first we have heard from him. Is this also something I can bring up in defense?

I know this was an incredibly long post, but in short this guy is basically a slum lord. With the papers being so vague, I almost get the impression he tries this with most of his tenants when they leave. I really hate to give this guy anything whatsoever after living in complete misery for over a year. Is it not enough that he kept our whole deposit? I don't understand what damages and fees he could have assessed that would have amounted to more than $650.00 that he could find us responsible for. Any advice or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not defending the Craigster I'm just wondering how many people would like to be charged with lewd conduct for doing something obscure like tapping their feet or whistling or any list of things that people do during the day. Can someone site a source that says a person does not have the right to tap their feet?

Ok, so I dont mean people dont have rights. I just think that parents should be able to slap their kids, police should be able to clip cheeky youngsters around the ear, and criminals should go to a proper prison with no creature comforts and stay there for a while. Lets show people that their actions will have recriminations and perhaps they will think twice. All the do gooders who come on and disagree; you are to blame for the crime ridden respect free society we live in.

I want to know the specifics with regard to law in the State of California on this subject. Who makes the illegal action in the downloading of a song. Is the person who downloads the song guilty and under threat of facing a civil action, or is the person who allows the uploading of a song already in their possession. are they both at risk of a civil action. by what means do authorities find out when a song as been downloaded or uploaded?

We looked up the possible side effects to his drug - and being outside of reality is one of several effects we see in him.
In the past he, unprovoked, assaulted another neighbor.

Our most recent awareness is the possibility he has booby trapped his property with lethal weapons to keep burglars away.

If he has placed projectiles, such as guns, those of us in his line of fire - in our own homes - are at risk.
How best to protect people in our neighborhood?

Is there a legal proceedure?
What are our limitations?
Who do we contact?
What "proof" do we need?

Please help. Today I was jogging at around 8:15pm anyway i'm on a corner when I look down the street and there is this car stopped in the middle of the road. I think it is strange that it won't move but I just thought it was a an old person. So I start running and soon I pass this car. Well when i get to the end of the street I turn back and the car starts to go and parks on the curb. Well I start walking that way when a cop car comes behind me and tells me stop. Well they start talking to me and tell me to sit down. By the way i'm 16. Anyways they give me all usaul cop talk. Then they ask me what Tag Crew im with. They are accusing me of graffiti. Anyways I give them my info and they say I can go free if I just tell them who did it. I was alone so i don't know. Anyway they dont believe me and keep saying they no i did it. They have no evidence, no spraypaint on my hands, just the cops word i did it. Do you think i will get convicted. I dont want it on my permenent record.

I am the victim of Domestic Violence, and currently have a no-contact order; and do not wish to prosecute my daughter's father. Can they by force hold me in custody before the trial? It was stated on the letter that they will issue a warrant of arrest if I don't appear in the court? Since I have forgiven my ex-husband. I don't want to pro-long any legal court battle. I will really appreciate your answers.
