I recently seen the movie America: Freedom to Fascism and started doing my own research on the IRS. What I have found so far is that there is no way the income tax can be legal because it would violate the 5th amendment because I don't have to do anything that incriminates myself. Can anyone help? (If you are interested in seeing the movie, it is free on Google Video. Just type the name.)

Before I start, I'm an independent, formerly registered Democrat, and but now support the Conservatives. Big change, I know, but I like to consider myself as seeing the "light".

Anyway. Why can Americans enlist in the Military or be a Police Officer, but they cannot carry or transport a handgun until the age of 21?

I know police officers who cannot legally purchase recreational handgun ammo, due to the fact that they are not 21, and they must request it from the department.

Can anyone point me in the bill that was passed that made this such a ridiculous law? Who presented this idea? Etc.

Thanks!

I've been writing a blog for a while that combines images from Flickr which are licensed under creative commons (non-commercial) with select quotes. After several requests, I'm now considering turning it into a book of sorts, via Lulu.com.

Because of the license terms and spirit of what I'm doing, I'm not looking to make any money from this personally. However, it seems it could be a good opportunity to help a charity.

Would it be allowable under the terms of the creative commons license for me to charge say $1-2 extra on top of the cost from Lulu for printing/shipping, with the full extra amount going to a nominated charity?

Let me first state that I think the implication of the settlement is tragic. That professional clergy violating a position of such immense trust could be found guilty of such inhumane criminal behavior is beyond belief.

That said, I'm uncertain what to think of the $660M settlement to the 500+ victims of the criminal activity. I believe firmly that those who were responsible should be held accountable... via prison sentences. However, I fail to see how a monetary settlement helps the victims of violent crimes.

We definitely do not owe this debt - it is a Bally Fitness scam being perpetrated by Asset Acceptance, extorting money from fraudulent, made up/concocted "debts". We have contacted a lawyer to send a cease and desist letter on our behalf. QUESTION: How EFFECTIVE is a cease/desist letter from a lawyer? After all, it is not a court summons or police coming to your door - why should the collection agency care about a lawyer's letter? What does it mean compared to our responding directly WITHOUT a lawyer? Please explain. Thanks (in the meanwhile avoid Bally Fitness as a gym - they do not respect personal privacy and tell lies/cheat to get you into contracts - even after contracts have ended they keep on hounding you to pay them debts. Bally Fitness should be closed down by FTC) We are also contacting BBB and FTC in this regard.

If we work over 4 hours we are entitled to a 10 minute paid tea break, however if we work under 4 hours we are not entitled to any break (we can use the loo, but nothing else) can our boss legally stop us from having a drink of water if we need one? in that 4 hours i quite often will need to have a sip of water possibly 2 times at the most at no more than 30 seconds a time, so is this right?
I know we could sneak a drink after a loo break but why should we have to lie about being thirsty?
Please only informative answers and also web sources if possible as i need to back myself up - i'm sure they cant stop us drinking???

I was caught driving my old car from the mechanic's garage to my home, 3 exits up, with intent to transfer the car to my sister the next day for her to drive. This is the only time the car had been driven in over a year! The insurance & tag had expired. After signing the car over, she purchased her own tag & insurance for the car. I pleaded not guilty in traffic court and was told I would have a "trial", whatever that is...My new job is 46 miles from home. Will I even be able to get a work permit for purposes of driving to work? If so, how long will it take??? The the judge order that if they chose, immediately?

I have a simple question. My lawyer sent my landlord a demand letter stating that i was injured on his property and due to his negligence. Something that was left hazardous to the tenants for over 7months. But any way, the same day he got the demand letter. He came knocking on my door, and my mom answered and he said to my mom that "he got the letter and that he had went to his attorney and his attorney stated that he could lose everything because of this one incident." Than he said " tell your son just don't sue me for a million dollars because i will lose everything." Should I tell my lawyers about the encounter and what he said to my mom or no? Also why?

I was driving and my licensed is suspended (wrong I know), however my tag is completely legal, but a policeman was behind me and randomly ran my tag, now I did nothing wrong for him to run my tag, he says he was justing randomly running it. Doesn't he have to have a reason to do so? Can he just pick someone out of the crowd and run their tags and pull them over without provocation?

I really do not know what exactly I need to do, because I received a letter from a Food Lion here in North Carolina that tells me that I have to pay $165 to them by Friday because there was an insufficient check wrote for that amount. My problem is, that check was not written by me, someone else wrote it, I have already seen a copy of it and it is not my signature nor my driver's license number nor my telephone number that was written on it as the information that the cashier is suppose to request. I went to the bank and they told me that the first thing I need to do is close the bank account. But now, what can I do to find that person is will probably keep using my information?

People have successfully sued bartenders, clubs, and even homeowners for serving people and then letting them drive drunk, and then that driver kills someone in an accident. We've also punished cigarette companies for knowingly promoting the use of a product that leads to death.

Isn't it time for people to begin holding cell carriers liable for deaths due to the use of their product while in a moving vehicle?

It's technically possible for them to prevent it. Cell phones are periodically pinging for the closest tower to establish a connection and constantly checking signal strength, so they can easily determine whether you are standing still or on the move. And, like tobacco companies, they clearly know that all the new features and gadgets (distractions) will be used in vehicles.

I believe in personal responsibility. But if it was OK to sue tobacco companies, bartenders, gun makers, etc., aren't cell carriers equally liable and negligent for their products' misuse?

Hello everybody, I was wondering if you guys could help me out. I have an ex who heard through the grapevine that I was pregnant. He is 1000% not the father and he knows it. However, to add drama to both his life and mine he's gotten a lawyer and I got a letter saying that I have to submit to a DNA test. I could just "give in" and take the test but I'm so mad at him for doing this and getting me upset while I'm Pregnant(35wks) that I do not want my child violated when he's born...even if it is just a swab of the cheek. I live in Pa and need help, does anyone know what rights I have in denying him this test. Doesn't he have to prove he was with me around the time of conception? I mean really, can anyone just go to a lawyer with a false claim making accusations and force someone to give a DNA sample? Please only answer if you know about this type of situation. Thanks so much.

I know people are probably thinking "just take the test", but it's principle now.

My son is much better off with me, his mother doesn't work, has 3 other kids all by different men, lives off of food stamps. She does have a live in boyfriend, which my finacee and I also live together. In her care my 5 year old son has missed 11 days of school his first year in kindergarden, which he did pass. I am always the one to take him to the DR. as she will not ever take him. She has let her boyfriend spank my son to the point that welts were left on his legs from a belt for a few days. I did call Social Services, and they just don't give a crap, they check out there home and later dropped the case. Also she lets my son watch really bad movies, like pg-13, and he is only 5. I guess my question is, should I just get over it, and have to learn to deal with the way it is, I mean I see my son 50% of the time, but at this point I feel he needs more stability, instead of back and fourth, we live 25 miles apart. Or should I fight for full custody??
