my divorce was final 1 yr ago - my attorney had originally told me $1000 for the divorce but in the end charged me $2250 which is still cheap i guess. my ex was ordered to sell the house, pay it off and pay off another mortgage we had on a diff property, and pay me my half of the settlement - the prob is he paid off the house and paid me but did not pay off the other property, has not made a payment on the property since Jan. 07 and it is now ready for forclosure this is really hurting my credit. when i contacted my attorney he said he wanted another $500 to pursue this - wasnt it his job to make sure this was all taken care of in the first place? I was also court ordered to pick up furniture and some personal belongings but when i went to get them ex gave me a rough time and wouldnt let me in the house i asked the attorney to pursue this also and he said he didnt want to b bothered with petty stuff!! what are my rights and can i pursue this on my own and how? I live in PA

Like a lot of folks in this state(IL) I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck,I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.
Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them??
Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sitting on their butt.
Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check????? It cost approx $15 for a monthly drug test verses approx $1000 per month per welfare recipient. Coke and Crack may leave the urine system quickly but it remains in the hair up to a year. Another test that cost less to perform!

I have been charged with 2 felonies , filing a false police report and intimidation. The judge in pretrial said he saw no evidence of these charges and asked the prosecution to itemize them. When I came back to court they did not itemize so the judge dismissed . They immediately appealled and as far as itemizing alls they did is put down 2 dates. My lawyer instantly put in a motion to dismiss for lack of probable cause . It went in front of the original judge which dismissed it and we thought for sure he would dismiss , but he gave them 2 more weeks to clearly itemize the charges. I heard the judge say he doubted they would be able to do so , and told my lawyer he will dismiss it if they dont . My thoughts are they will probably try to skew the wording in the police report and itemize that to try to force it into court if the judge does not call them on it . This has been going on for 6 months if they had probable cause wouldnt they have itemized them by now ? Any thoughts ?

and the person's father is also on the checking account, can funds still be levied or garnished? I know that having a spouse on the account doesn't necessarily prevent this from happening, even if the spouse is not the one who has been sued and had the judgement against him. However, if a third party is present on the account, such as a father, and he is not part of the judgement, will this prevent a bank garnishment from happening??

I know it sounds childish but I recently went on a rant about an ex friend in a blog. I used no names and no threats just your everyday venting and b*tching sort of thing. How far would I have to go in order for it to no longer be considered free speech?

I just recieved a confirmation email from my bank that someone set themselves up as a direct payee to recieve a check for $1800 in the mail. I am in NY and it was to be sent to California. I called the bank last night and they said that they will put a stop to the check. How does someone do that? And should the bank be liable for allowing this transaction?

A few years have passed now since the war on terror began, however does anyone else, like me, feel uneasy about the way in which prisoners still being detained without trial. British law (arguably a template that other countries have adopted) has always been based on "Innocent till proven guilty". The people in Guantanamo Bay have never been afforded this luxury though and it leaves a bad taste in the mouth about how the world is moving foward. If they are guilty of murderous crimes I say throw away the key and switch the lights off on the way out, but I think this should have been proven far quicker in order to quell the suffering of innocent parties and their families.

Your sensible thoughts please?
