Assuming you are in America, you are free to leave a hospital at any time you want, the staff at the hospital will advise you that it is not in your best interest to do so but they cannot stop you. You should only have to sign a form that says you left against their advice. Also you may want to remember that if anything happens due to complications for whatever reason that you are or were in the hospital, you cannot hold the doctors or nurses responsible because you left against medical advice.

Who is forcing you to be there? If you are in police custody or otherwise under a court order while in the hospital, it would be illegal to escape. If you are a minor and your parents are forcing you to stay in the hospital, you would be considered a run away.
Otherwise, they can't keep you in a hospital. They, whoever they are, would be guilty of kidnapping. You have the right to refuse treatment.

you don't "escape" from the hospital unless you are there under police custody or a directive from a court mandate or a minor...so no you are free to leave at any time you please....however your insurance will not cover any of the costs incurred while you were there

What they said, the hospital will cover their butt by making you sign a waver stating that you were leaving the hospital against medical advice. Just so if you die after leaving, your family can't sue them.
