My buddy lives in Houston, TX, and he was charged w/ misdemeanor & convicted back in 2004 for assaulting his wife, (2'nd marriage.) In 12/2006 he was arrested & charged w/ 2'nd misdemeanor - assault/bodily injury f/ assaulting wife, (2'nd marriage.) Bond set @ $5K, he paid $500 & released from jail. He received a 3'rd charge (FELONY) - assault w/deadly weapon in 2/2007, (2'nd marriage.) Bond $$ for the 2'nd misdemeanor was enhanced to a FELONY @ $50K. He was charged - 3r'd time (FELONY) in 2/2007 - assault w/ deadly weapon, (2'nd marriage.) Bond set at $0 bond. He's still in jail. Arraingment is set in a week or so in court.
NOTE: He's been in jail & prison in the past, i.e. possession of drugs, selling drugs, traffic tickets, welfare fraud, bad checks, domestic violence/1'st marraiage. I think his fate will depend a lot on the prosecutor, judge & criminal history. So, what's the likelihood he'll get probation or end up in prison? If he goes 2 prison, what's the min/max time?

I met my female supervisor at a gay club one night 3 years ago thru some former employees(gay men) the very first night that I met her I told her of my sexual preference and she must have obviously been in denial about it. That night after we dropped her and her friends home she stepped out of the vehichle gave me her home and office number and said to call me in the a.m. and we will get you on the ball for applying for this position, further more I told her that I had a felony on my record and I was not qualified for the position and she said not a problem that she would pass all of my info to her friend in the HR dept. where if HR would have done a reference check on a past employer on my resume they would have known the place was ficticious. bottom line is I filed a case back in Dec 06 I have met with HR only twice and between the 2 meeting and a couple of generic e-mails they always make me feel like i'm lying and she is protected. Im being legal advised. What can I do!!!

My Dad and three siblings inherited land from their parents. Dad and one sister own the surface interest of 1/2 of the land and the other brother and sister own the other half. Then they all share the minerals eaqually of the land. Well my Dad passed away and then we find out that Dad "gave" his land portion to his sister he shared the land with. But my question is this, why would the lawyer be contacting me with papers of who owns what if Dad "gave" his land away. I called the lawyer and he said, "it is just a technicality." Clearing up something from years ago. All the while he is telling me this, he is constantly clearing his throat. He said that an oil man wants to drill and so they need "this" cleared up. BUT the legal papers say "that paragraph # of the original judgement should be amended to read as follows: and then my Dads name is listed as owning land AND the mineral rights. But the lawyer says "technicality" your dad gave away his land. He owns nothing. Sorry this is so long

I'm a senior poly sci student taking con law, in class we have mock trials set up and I am defending a man who is accused of rape and murder. He was questioned when it happened and he had a solid alibi. 20 years later, police revisited the case (they don't tell us why) and one of the witnesses of his alibi changed his story (he was in prison and was promised a reduced sentence, the jury didn't know this). The police sent the defendent a letter saying he won a trip and when he replied, they got his DNA off the envelope and it matched the DNA from the scene. The defendant and the victim had an intimate relationship prior to the murder and they had broken up one month before the murder.
We are researching 4th, 5th, and 14th amendment cases, if anyone has any ideas or suggestions for our case, I would appreciate it.

This sounds crazy, but it's actually happening at the YW*A where I live... There are 2 areas that have residents: one is a domestic violence shelter, the other is a regular residents hall that is holding 19 residents, most (not me) who were put here for drug-related offenses.

Anyway..this lady came to work for the shelter and came to live on the regular residents hall. After about 4 months she was put in charge even though I knew her before from a place I used to work and she hung around the drug crowd even then. She also worked at the shelter, around kids, for about maybe 2 years tops when--surprise, surprise!!(not)--she "pissed dirty"...meaning, she failed a drug test. Now she lost her job at the shelter, but, INCREDIBLY she is still in charge of the residents hall. Even tho 98% of the "new" girls have addiction issues. And a staffer told another resident that this place GAVE THIS ACTIVE DRUG ADDICT A CAR all her own. Nice, huh? A drug addict...w/ a car. What can I do?

I bought a "Baby Einstein" dvd 22 "box set" off of ebay for a fairly low price considering what they cost individually. After seeing some comments on amazon.com stating that this "box set" was a mass produced fake, I was concerned. I called Disney, and guess what, it is fake, they don't make a box set of just dvd's like that, the sell the dvd's all with indivudual sleeves and sometimes boxed together, but still with each individual sleeve. I already was refunded by the seller, who claimed they didn't know they were fake, then about a week later I see them selling the same dvd's again. I got ebay to pull the listings, but I want them to get in trouble legally because I can only guess they are not just selling them on ebay and they could easily change their name and start selling more. Who can I report this to (I have their address info from the package they sent)? Also, there are so many more people selling the same fake dvd set on ebay, how do you report all these people?

I get on well with our newly appointed assistant manager, i considered him a mate we often give each other lifts to and from work as we live in the same estate, but today i was called into the office for him to formally 'TALK' to me about stuff that he's taken completely out of context, stuff we have laughed about together. But the thing that REALLY annoyed me was that he said i was bullying one of the girls which is completely untrue, she's new enough and i'm always sayin stuff like "get ****** to do it she's the newbee haha"i always laugh then do it myself.........It's just the way i go on and most importantly she knows that and laughs with me.
I'd love to go in on monday knowing my rights and taking some kind of action, can anyone help me.
He is sooo wrong and can't get away with these power trips!!

I recently started an appeal against council tax liability. The council agreed in writing that they would shelve enforcement proceedings until the appeal was heard. Less than a month later they have actually issued a summons for me to appear at the local magistrates court at which they say they will ask for a liability order against me. I will have to attend to oppose the order otherwise they will win by default. I am contesting liability because the property which is mine was rented to a tenant who the council are unable to collect council tax from because he has done a runner leaving several unpaid bills including rent. The appeals procedure specifically says that enforcement proceedings should be suspended until any appeal has been dealt with. I am apprehensive about the magistrates court appearance. Anybody have any ideas on the problem. Legal aid is not available nor can I afford the exorbitant solicitors fees. There is more to this matter but not enough space to include everythi

In Mexico, there are laws that give indigenous people government papers in their language. Does the U.S. have that, or is it not really necessary because of cultural genocide aka "assimilation".
