Hi Alan,

The law, coming into effect on 1 July, will affect lorry drivers. Your lorry is classed as your workplace, therefore smoking will NOT be permitted in your cab, or any other accesible parts of the vehicle.

The exception to this rule is, if a lorry is only EVER used by one person, then smoking is permitted. But this is likely to be a very rare situation....even if a company only employs one driver to drive their one and only vehicle, then the lorry may be driven by someone else, if the driver is on leave. The Transport Manager, or an agency driver, may be called upon to drive the vehicle.

If you're a smoker, which I am guessing that you are, then I must say, I do feel for you drivers.....having to drive for 8 or 10 hours a day, and not even able to light up a ciggie to break the boredom.

I don't think a lorry cab is a 'Public Place' is it?

The Law is designed to protect other people not the smoker.

no longer exempt, i think of you will discover that drivers of extensive autos consisting of lorries and coaches/buses face much better outcomes for this offence than automobile drivers do. P professional drivers ought to not extra suitable!!! get on your telephone and checklist them!!!!
