I know that the age of consent (where we live, in VA) is 18. My boyfriend and I have had sex for some time now, and I found out recently that I was pregnant.

Since I wouldn't be due to have the baby until well after my birthday, would he get in trouble? Or should we be okay?

My mom has been having a lot of trouble at her job lately, basically her supervisors started "nitpicking" at little things. But noone else would get in trouble for those things only her. Then they didn't fire her but, they basically made her quit. Is this legal? What can she do about it?

Someone I know is being put on trial in Idaho for molesting an eight year old girl over five years ago. He didn't do it but his ex-girlfriend, her daughter, and her granddaughter are claiming he did. They had the pre-trial today and the judge told my friend that if the jury finds him guilty that he will be locked up for life. The judge hasn't even heard my friends side of the story. The women that are claiming he did this to a little girl slit the tires on their cars and said he did it. The police found out after they had arrested him for it that they had done it. They hadn't said anything about him doing this until they found out that he was going to move out of state.

The judge told my friends lawyer that unless my friend takes a plea bargain or the jury doesn't find him guilty that he's going to be in jail for the rest of his life (this was said before the pre-trial).

Is there anything that he can do to get a new judge or make the real trial more fair?

OK Im a freshman in college and my girlfriend who is a senior in high school recently added a picture of herself holding a gun of mine (AR15). She posted this on her myspace which then her high schools "school resource officer" found it while he was supposedly protecting the schools interests. They called her and her mom into the office and yell at them telling them they've been red flagged by the FBI and they took that picture and printed it off and showed it to them. They said she could be suspect to terrorist activities and where did i get the gun. (he said i either stole it or i was a drug dealer) Take in mind this school resource officer is an off duty cop.
(some cop huh ?) He said i must be a drug dealer because the legal versions of the weapons cost a lot and they do i worked my tail off for it. He also said many other things. Before this i was accused of being a homosexual by their principal! Have my rights been violated ?What should i say to them when i go to see them aboutit?

Think about it. Far as I can tell:
1. Lawyers are paid based on winning cases, and not punished if they exaggerate or omit parts of the truth...and the only people in the jury, often less talented at rhetoric then the lawyers (and unable to keep up with their rhetoric), can filter out the truth in final decisions. This problem often exists regardless of any judge's handling objections and moderating communication.

2. Richer people can afford more persuasive lawyers and bails, for example, can often simply be paid off (and not as a percentage of income or asset ownership). This often make the law biased heavily in favor of the rich...and it's not "just OJ Simpson".

3. Too many times a judge's slant can be based personal emotions. (If it doesn't already exist in some form) their should be a few judges that can call the judge on bias, just as the congress can limit the power of the president.

If you agree with my stance, what would you propose as an alternative?

The town that I live in doesn't have job opportunities for people. Me and my husband have been going through the MIssouri Career Center to look for jobs, but no luck. We are both wanting to go back to school, but the classes don't start until August. The problem that I am having with the DFS is that my case worker don't want to do anything with my case unless she wants to hurt it. I have two small children one is 2 and the other is 8 mths. With this going with the settlement that I had recieved in December 2006, she tells me that when me or my husband gets a job that my children will be cut off of medical assistance and that would be effected immediatly. When my husband did work, but then lost his we applied for assistance and she didn't want to give it to us in the first place. When my second baby was born in June 2006, I was trying to get my case worker to work on my daughters medical because she had a really bad problem with her eye and even then she didn't want to give it.

For example: Whilst giving Mr X and Mr Y a lift home in your car, Mr X becomes violent towards you. To defend yourself, you slam on the breaks to make Mr X lunge forward. However, by doing so, you're also making Mr Y lunge forward. Is this okay, as you're effectively protecting both yourself and Mr Y from harm, even though it causes some harm to Mr Y?

....discuss.

How long are you usually sentenced for if you are found guilty? I am following this case in Arizona. The defendants were charged with child abuse, negligent homicide, and with abandonment of a dead body. Lawyers please tell these people will go away for a long time.

Is there a defence for battery? I suggest s.5(2) of the Criminal Damage Act (i.e. self defence), but can't seem to figure out if it would apply to battery - any case law or statutes would be appreciated!

She wanted to do a divorce case with me and left me a deposit of $600. She didn't give me all the information to properly start the case and said she was going to be back. She never came back and now in 2007 she keeps calling the office asking for her money back.

I am trying to figure it if the law permits me to stay with the money since she's claiming money back from that long ago after the services weren't completed. I don't want to give her the money back since it's her fault she never even contacted me about the money throughout so many years.

I'll start by saying i'm not a sex offender, but I think that these license plates are going to accomplish little other than getting people beaten or killed. Why don't they just make them wear a target on their shirt?

If someone shouldn't be in society they should be in jail.... I don't think we should put people at additional risk. Monitoring them more closely would be a safer method.

I have been in the same apartment for 7 1/2 years and there has never been a no smoking policy and still isn't. Now I am moving and they want to charge me an arm and a leg to change all of the blinds, detox the place, and for the paint. There was no damage whatsoever and I left the place as clean as possible after 7 years. As far as I'm concerned, if there is no policy, I consider this wear and tear. My new place does have a no smoking policy and I'm glad, because it is nasty and gets into and onto everything. BUT, if you have the right to smoke in an apartment, how can they turn around and charge you for what they know is going to be the result?

I live in WA state.
My ex husband owes my kids an outrageous amount of back-child support. In order to get some money from him, I had the state go after him and not they take money directly from his paycheck, but not before he owed the kids nearly $20,000.
For a couple of years, his tax return went directly to me, bringing down the total owed to the kids a little bit. However, for the past two years, I stopped getting his tax returns.
This tells me that he has stopped filing his income tax. Yes, he is selfish enough to stop filing just so I can't have the money.
How do I get the law to look into this? I have talked to the Child support system and they say can't get involved in that.
I am angry because the kids deserve the financial help and I don't know who to talk to to get that selfish man to be responsible.
Yes, he does work so he should have had to file his taxes.
