I know that the age of consent (where we live, in VA) is 18. My boyfriend and I have had sex for some time now, and I found out recently that I was pregnant.

Since I wouldn't be due to have the baby until well after my birthday, would he get in trouble? Or should we be okay?

I think you should be fine unless, your parents press the issue with the police.

Technically, NO, you will not be okay. The hospital will have your charts and know your birthday. From that, they will be able to see roughly when you got pregnant, so they will know you got pregnant at 17....so unless the age of sexual consent is 16, your boyfriend committed statutory rape. If the doctors (or your parents) even bother, they will most likely call the police and/or a social worker. They are required to do so by law (they must report all cases of abuse, even sexual). At that point, IF the prosecutor decides to pursue the case, they will try to get info like what the father's name is so they can press charges against him. He will be given an option to plea down or face trial.

Do your parents know about this? Most young couples get in trouble when the girl's parents find out about the pregnancy and file the police report. If I was in your situation, I would try to get as much support as possible from friends and family. Also, I know it sounds sad, but I would probably ask that my bf NOT be at the hospital when I give birth. I think that could be a huge mistake, and wouldn't be worth the risk-but that is just me.

According to the Department of Health in Virginia, the law states that since you were 17 at the time of intercourse, it would be a misdemeanor with 1 yr in prison and/or $2,500 fine. http://www.vahealth.org/civp/sexualviolence/varapelaws/laws_rape.asp.
Overall, I don't think it is highly likely that you guys will get in trouble, but there is certainly a chance, and I wouldn't take it.
I hope this helps. Good Luck.

If the laws in your state say that the age of consent is 18, then having sex with someone under 18 is very likely statutory rape.

The pregnancy isn't the issue. It's having sex with someone under the age of consent. Your boyfriend needs to consult with an attorney regarding the statutory rape laws in your state.

He'd possibly get in trouble, I easily have be responsive to concept if it may desire to develop right into a federal ingredient, in simple terms the indisputable fact that he's very practically 18 and is having family with somebody whose 13, like universal fee for a severe college senior is 17-18, and the first fee for a 8th grader is 12-13 >.> so for one its form of creepy..

It depends the way your parents think. Did they know that you were dating this man? Do they approve?I know a lady who was married at 16 to a 24 year old with her parents consent! She got pregnant several months after the marriage. They thought it was wonderful that their daughter was married to a man who would be able to work and take care of their daughter.WE live in Illinois. But really I think it depends on your parents and what they want to do. If they do not approve then yes he can be charged and sent to jail.

That is up to your parents to decide now, in any case having sex with a minor under the legal age limit is a felony, and he can be charged with more than statutory rape.

I would not worry about it. However, you need prenatal vitamins, testing for HIV, hepatitis and other STDS, a doctor who specializes in pregnancy and a good diet. No alcohol, no cigarettes, excessive caffeine or drugs. You should consult a member of your church or synagogue as well as a counsellor about various solutions.

If you plan on keeping the child, a parenting course would be helpful along with guidance from relatives. I suggest staying with relatives. If you cannot, ask about a group home for unwed teenage mothers. You can qualify for welfare and housing, along with medicare and there are schools with daycare facilities paid for by the community and government. Please continue your education.

I think this would be considered statutory rape. You will have a problem if your parents decide to press charges. He is a grown *** man, and your still considered a minor. I take it your parents dont know about this relationship, or he looks young.

Yes, your boyfriend is guilty of statutory rape where you live. Turn him in, a 24 year old has no business messing around with a 17 year old. I will tell you, he is going to dump you and is probably already messing around with somebody even younger than you. Sorry but you're an idiot; save some other girl and file against him.

You're a floozy and a you're boyfriend is a rapist. Way to get a child's life off in the right direction. You ever think about someone else other than your wasted existance.

That is SO bogus...you consented (and repeatedly) and he has to lose sleep over it. How fair is that? You should go to jail with him if he goes and share the time 50/50.
