Got into a scrap with a guy at work and he's threatening to press charges, but then backed off. No injuries, or marks. Only hurt feelings. State of Texas.

self defense is when you use the necessary force to keep yourself out of harm or limit the amount of harm inflicted upon you.

this is self defense
man 1 calls out man 2 and punches man 2, man 2 punches man 1 and runs away-self defense
man 1 calls out man 2 and punches man2, man 2 tackles man 1 and restrains him-self defense
man 1 calls out and punches man 2,man 2 punches man 1, man 1 tackles man 2 to the ground, man 2 kicks man 1 in the face and runs away-self defense

this is aggrovated assault
man 1 calls out man 2, man 2 punches man1
man 1 punches man 2 one time, man 2 punches man 1 and attempts to fight.

this is a fight
man 1 calls out and punches man 2, man 2 and man 1 exchange blows for period of time until are stopped or just stop.

bob is just clearing thsi up for other answeres because they dont seem to know the difference between self defense and a fight.

as for your question bob would probobly say somewhere round 6 months, 2 years tops.

My advice sir, if you were the instigator of the fight and the other guy decided not to press charges, don't press your luck. I would apologize and shake hands. If there were no injuries, and it was just a verbal exchange, it's best to make up and forget the matter. I'm not a cop or a lawyer, but just giving you a common sense assessment of the situation.

You'll have to look up the statute of limitations. Generally two years. But, if he forgets about it for a while and then you piss him off and he tries to press charges they wont stick.

Regardless of when he files, the more time he waits, the less action will be taken. If he waits two or three days, they'll fill out a report and toss it as soon as he leaves.
