My husband and i live in a one bedroom apartment in Flint Michigan. My sister-inlaw was staying at our apartment to use the computer while we were at work. She fell asleep on our bed and was awaken by somebody pounding loudly on the door. She is a very heavy sleeper, but the knocking woke her up. She said someone yelled "Landlord" 2 or 3 times while knocking. She layed on the bed, thinking that the person would go away and instead the person entered the apartment. My sister-inlaw said she heard 2 people walking around the apartment while she was laying there. She was scared to move not knowing who it was. We don't have a phone and her cell phone was in her purse. She said that the people took pictures and left after being there for 10 minutes. There was no prior written concent on needing to enter our apartment left on our door. The landlord didn't call us either. There was no emergency or nothing was broken that needed to be fixed. Is it legal to take any pictures of my personal stuff?

Here’s the scenario. Childless couple Arthur and Martha Doofus have both written wills. Arthur’s stipulates that if he dies before Martha, then his money goes to her, but if she dies first, his money goes to the Dog Society. Martha’s will says that if she dies first, then her money goes to him, but if he dies first, then the Cat Society benefits.

Tragically, they have a car accident, and both die, apparently instantly. Who gets the money – the Cat or the Dog Society? Now, what about if they linger on for a couple of days? Imagine that one dies two days later, and 5 minutes later the other dies. Would this sort of thing affect the dispersal of the funds. What about if the Dog Society gets wind of this and argues for the doctors not to pull the plug until they have pulled the plug on his wife, so that the money goes to the Dog Society and not the Cat. If the Cat Society got in on the act, then there could be a Mexican standoff, with both sides keeping the respirators going. And so on.

I would like to say that I cant believe how some people could be so evil on the road!

If people take the drivers test and pass it, how come they dont understand rules when driving ? Why is it they dont know how to drive at the speed limit, stop when the light is turning yellow, slow down to make a stop, use your signal light, stay out of the blind spot, know in an intersection with stop signs who's right away it is, learn to give the right away, know to stop when someone gives the right away to the person pulling out of a business, or here comes a self centered person making his/her own lane, and not wating to get to that corner to make that right turn, instead comes flying down not realizing the person on the lane is giving a person coming out of a business the right away to go into the lane. I cant stand people on the freeway whom will not let anyone get into the lane they are in, if a person has to get in.

Camera on car, I will start taking license #s down will report many

Jack and Jill are making out. Moment by moment, they get bolder with each other. They rip each other's clothes off or at least get the ones in the way, out of the way. Jack crawls on top and penetrates Jill.

Five minutes later, Jill is very passionate. Groping etc...A few minutes after that, she tells Jack no. Jack is on a sex high and the word doesn't register. Maybe she pushes him, but she's already been rough. He doesn't hurt her, he doesn't force her, but now she's said no and he's unaware and finishes.

People are not perfect. That is a fact.

Yet, it makes me mad when I hear "Well, if they got scammed, they deserved it for being so stupid!", or "If they weren't stupid enough to go there (fill in the blank), this would NOT have happened"

The point is, we can all be fooled. How many times have you fell prey to a lie in a relationship? Or other areas of life, only to feel stupid later, gosh, how could I have been sucked in like that?

This kind of response to criminal behavior is like praising the criminals for being so much smarter than their prey, & placing the blame on the innocent people when the criminal gets away with the crime for being "smart".

By making innocent people feel dumb, this really discourages people from even reporting this kind of thing.

Why can't we just punish the criminal, show them we don't accept this kind of behavior so they won't do this to start with?

Are we so heartless in society as to criminalize people for being "dumb"?

A friend of mine asked my opinion on letters of reference from Profs or instructors or employers. And you can be sure have an opinion, no body gone like.

I said letters of introduction were much better approx three to four lines, similar to this.

Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing this letter to confirm that Mr. ****** **** was a student in the *** ********** *********** program since September 2004 until the end of April 2008-02-26
During this time, I had the opportunity to instruct Mr. **** *** in ******** **********. I found Mr. **** to be an extremely conscientious and studious individual. He is a quick study and has a keen attention to detail.
I would like to provide a positive recommendation for Mr. **** as a potential employee.
Sincerely,

My reply to my friend.

It is what ever is good for you,
All I am saying is if someone won’t write me one, then I really wonder about what they have to hide and why they won’t trust me.
And what they have to say, that they can’t say to my face or put in writing for me.
In my personal opinion letters of reference are a cowardly open invitation to discriminate, and black-ball people; I feel it is a form of human rights issue.
It can be used by old employers to keep people from ever getting work.
Susan (just an example), worked for a company for eight years with no problem, then the business was sold and the new employer harassed her and scared her so she had to quit. But now she could not use the last eight years of her life as a reference.
Another example Jim is a native every one thought he was fine as long as he stayed as a grunt doing the dirty work. But then he went to school and wanted letters of reference from his employer that thought natives should not forget there place, so he smiled to jims face and every time Jim went for a job Jim could not figure out why he could not get work.
The answer?
His old employer did not want natives getting ahead in Canada.
Letters of reference can be used by an employer that has harassed female employees, to stalk them and keep tabs on them.
They are in my personal opinion
Invasive,
Dangerous,
Unnecessary,
And a breeding ground for quite discrimination.
It also prejudges the person with out them being allowed to defend themselves, and encourages assumptions, and it assumes that because a person made one mistake they will never change.

It would be interesting to see what female right groups, or native groups, or others have to say on these arguments against letters of reference and why they should be against the law and outlawed.

Okay, I was on spinchat.com, being bored and chatting. Some guy messages me and claims to worship Satan, etc. I told him I don't believe in any higher power, so that apparently insulted him. Anyway, he threatened me several times. First with a "hex of death" (which I don't believe in, but whatever.) and then said that I'm lucky to be behind a PC or else I'd be cut up by now. Also, he somehow got my IP address. I don't know if he could track me down to where I live, but it's starting to freak me out. He was obviously psychotic, so I wouldn't put it past him. I saved the conversation and his IP address as well. What can I do about this?

Way back in 2000 I had a bad day in the state of Maine. I got charged with speeding over the legal limit on a highway by 30mph+ (no other issues involved-- DUI, reckless, etc-- but the officers at the time referred to it as
criminal speeding-- although the ticket just read exceeding limit by 30+).

It is now 2007 and, since I live in another state and times were hard at the time not been back to deal with it.

I wonder about Statute of limitations on such matters in the State of Maine-- as, these things usually go, I have to make a trip back there for business in June.

Wondering if I may be in the clear. I would contact them either way... just wondering what the potential outcome might be.

Thanks for any info.

What would you do if another country ... one powerful enough, like China ... decided that it needed to liberate America from a government that it disagreed with? Imagine everything that would go along with being conquered and subordinated by another nation. All the Americans dead in the streets ... losing family members ... cities and infrastructure shattered ... Chinese troops implementing their puppet government. What would you do?

I can't speak for everyone here, but I'd be an AMERICAN INSURGENT. An AMERICAN PATRIOT fighting for the liberation of my country.

After coming home one day and finding your house blown apart with your spouse's blood and intestines scattered around the living room and your child's body charred to a cinder, what would you do if you got your hands on a Chinese soldier?

Would you go along with the puppet government forcibly installed by the conquering army? I wouldn't.

I understand how it began, simply states were too big, travel too difficult, it was easy for states to have their own laws and govern themselves.

But now with the connectivity and travel ability we have, state lines dont mean that much anymore. Why should in this day and age one thing be legal in one state and not in the other if we are a unified country.

One of the best examples is the age of consent, or the age at which a person can give consent to have sex. In one state it is 16, in another 18 and south carolina it was 14 for a time. So are children in south carolina more mature at 14 than children in Texas where the age of consent is 17? or new hampshire where it is 16? I am not advocating sex with minors, but it is absurd to think that someone could simply just drive a couple miles and what was once felonly rape of a child, is now perfectly allowable.
This is just one example of how state laws that are so different dont make sense in a society where people can simply move.

Here's my story:
I bought an amplifier to put in my car for $650 off or ebay (retail: $1800) and the wiring kit for it ($110). I'm in high school, and i have an auto tech class. Now, i don't know much about installing audio equipment in my car. But my classmates all said they could install it everything for me. I asked my teacher and classmates if they are 100% sure that they can install it for me, otherwise i would take it to get it professionally installed. Everybody said they guaranteed they will get it to work, and the teacher said he sees no reasons why we wouldn't be able to get it to work. So, everybody went to work. After a while, they discovered that they couldn't get it sucessfully installed, so they left it "half-way" installed. I then decided to take it to a professional car audio shop. One of the workers simply looked at the install my classmates did and said "they obviously didn't know what the !*@# they were doing." So, i set an appointment to get it professionally...

a friend of mine just got busted by campus security with 2 ozs of marijuana, a dozen or so bongs and pipes, and they found the stuff in multiple bags and containers all scattered around in every corner of the room. They gave him and his roomate forms requesting a search which he refused to sign but his roomate did, as well as later giving them a statement form which he put that he has "no knowledge of anything" on. Now security is trying to claim that he had intent to sell even though he never has and did not intend to (he smokes a sh**load of the stuff though). Campus security told him that if he fessed up, that he would be helping himself out a lot (but cops always tell you that and it is bs, they're just probing for information). Security told them that they may turn it into the DEA as intent to sell- if someone didnt confess. Anyone know anything about situations like this/the laws & have any advice to offer him before he does go and confess? This all took place in ohio by the way
