I am 62 and I put in for Social Security. Ten years ago when I left Oregon I had some misdemeanor assault charges. SS says they can't pay me since I have the warrants. I have written to the sheriff out there plus SS has let them know where I am. They have told SS they will not extradite or persue the charges further. I wanted to know if there was a legal service in Iowa that will do some pro bono work. I have called legal aid and since I am a senior they say they can help, but the lawyer just told me to contact the sheriff out there. The warrant date is 12/27/96, I was in Cheyenne, WY on that date. I just didn't show up for the court appointment that I had. So how do I find a lawyer to do some pro bono work or one who will take a percentage of my SS after I get the matter resolved?

I mean, isn't that what income taxes are, Fines for people who are working? I understand fines for speeding, and stealing, and cheating, but is it ethical to Fine people for waking up in the morning and going to work?

I'm still preparing my taxes from 2005. My state tax form (New York) not only requires that I use my federal tax infomation - meaning that I must prepare that first - but the form itself is four pages long. It requires, apparently in my case, the submission of three other documents as well. It is taking me quite a long time to prepare my taxes. And I, like countless other Americans, do not fully understand the tax system; it's way too complicated. Here's the question: Are we ultimated victimized by that which we do not understand? And if so, what does this say about our current tax system. (People who have never prepared taxes, please do not respond.)

Since I use psychedelic substances (Psilocybin mushrooms, LSD, MDMA/Ecstasy) to enhance my conscious experience and become unified with God and the Universe, these substances are a vital part of my religious experience. Does the War on Drugs violate this freedom of mine, since my own personal use does not harm others?

Came home today and there were 3 messages on my machine, from the sheriff. It said you have 2 minutes to secure your dogs because we're coming in. My son has a bench warrent for non-support. He isn't here however he uses my address. Please don't give me any smart answers. I'm very upset because he was in an auto accident over the wk. end and needs follow up treatment and I don't know where he is. Can the sheriff break down my door? Thanks

The police came to my house with a warrant looking for a roommate who has not lived with us in over a year. When they came the carpet needed shampooing and the house was not the tidiest house, but it was not horribly filthy. We told them the man they were looking for did not live there, but they decided to call a social worker to take away my neice, who is two. Are they allowed to do this even though they came for something else?
Also, when they took her we gave the social worker our uncle's phone #, but she refused to call and would not let any of my uncles or aunts take her, even though all 5 were willing. The SW wanted to put her in foster care for a dirtyhouse.(The baby has no physical or emotional damage, no dirty diaper or rash, no lice, no nothing bad). Is she allowed to place her w/ the county over family for this and especially is she allowed to put her in foster care just like that when plenty of family is willing to take her? Is there anyway she can get in trouble?
