Mice are running around my kitchen. The landlord claims he is not going to pay for an exterminator. Does he have a legal obligation to pay for at least part of it?

Did you put down a security deposit? If you did, he is obligated to pay for the rodents. If he doesn't pay, threaten him that you'll complain to the health department. That should work.:)

maybe yes maybe no.. if the infestation is because he is a slumlord he is obligated to pay and even a clause in a lease is unenforceable. On the other hand if you are a frig-gin slob you have to pay and also for any damage the Mice infestation cost .

Get a hold of your Housing authority. They can advise you on your problem. I broke my lease with my landlord because he refused to hire an exterminator and he refused pay to have the furnace and the gas lines cleaned so I could have the heat turned on.

If your house is unlivable the land lord in most states will have to put you up in a nicer hotel… until the problem is salved and if you have children living there the housing authority will get more on the, maybe even large fines
