Say you were sick and needed medical assistance but didn't have insurance. Is it legal to get married to someone just so they can add you to their medical insurance policy?

This is for a friend who has breast cancer and I told her that I didn't think there were any laws against that. I mean how could they prove it also, ya know.

My wife got in a car wreck with our baby (a dude in a small company's car hit our car and sped away but the police later caught up with him) and our lawyers said they have had to drop the case because they say the party at fault does not have insurance coverage at all. She has been going to the med and her back is hurting. Now I'm looking for the legal solutions.
Our car, which was totaled, had a value around $3800 (so we sure didn't have full coverage) and by the time you add the hospital bill, well, you go over $5000 which is the maximum we could have sued for in small court. She has lost her job since then, so we are just trying to get back on our feet here. What should I do. Was our lawyers' policy of dropping the case justified and ethical? Should we hire another lawyer? Should we sue the other owner in a different kind of court ? Is there anyway we can keep the med. bills from hitting us while we take care of all this ? Also, this is happening in the state of Texas.

I am defending myself against a summary judgement in california. I think what i have to defend myself against is the issue of "triable issues of material fact". What is recent case law regarding this. How can i show that there are triable issues, ie where the court has found against summary judgement. I am in Marin County superior court

Two months after my ex left me, I had a car accident from which I recieved 7,000+ from the insurance for replacement of a vehical, my ex kept comming over and refused to leave me and my family alone ( he had pulled a gun on me prior to this, and there was a EPO). He said if I didn't promisse to give him $500.00 out of my money he would spread lies about me, and hurt me and my family, even threatened to burn the house down and kill my dog. So I signed a paper saying I would, as long as he didn't hurt me, myfamily, our home ,and my dog. In the divorce he was ordered to pay some doctors bill of mine$50.00, now he refuses to pay them until I pay him the $500.00. What should I do, is it blackmail?

gym wanted to add 3mos on the end of contract to make up for the 3 mos.where no action was taken on their part .they wanted to change the dates on the contract and start over like it never happened.we opted to sign a new contract and then exercised the 3 day cancellation clause. We cancelled the auto pay through the bank after they took money for payment electronically after they had received the cancellation by certified mail within the specified time. They are now calling saying we still have a contract with them based on the first contract that was signed and had not been put in their system. Would the first contract still be valid or would the non-action on that contract make in null and void. Or would the signing of the new contract void the first one? Any help would be appreciated. They continue to call and harrass us.

This Question is a follow up to my previous question on Abortion:

By the woman's body, woman's choice argument. Should men have the option to pay a one time fee for getting a woman pregnant that is equal to, but not exceeding the cost for an abortion. If they are not given that option or the money is not used for an abortion then the men should be exonorated of any support needed for that child.

Likewise if a man wants to be a father should he be able to get a court order to prevent an abortion?

if goverment is so concerned about our health then i smoke but i would be more in favor of banning completely.
its so hipotrical to sitill take the taxes and say we are concerned.
they know if they do that then the black market would flurish and there revenue would be the loser. whats next peanut butter and peanuts.

I dont understand why people would try to ban it. Maybe for some people its not right. But why would you try to inflict your religous views on other people. Would you like it if other religions did that to you? Everyone has their own beliefs,

So last night I was at the gym changing my clothes in the locker room when a really fat lady walked in. Instead of going into the dressing room to change, she just started stripping right there in the middle of them room. At this time I stick my pointer finger into my mouth and pretend to gag myself. I am so upset and disgusted at the sight of it that I say to the fatty..."come on, nobody wants to see that sh*t! Cant you go into the dressing room and do that?" About this time she starts to cry. Can you imagine what I was going through? A big nasty b*tch, standing in the middle of the room in a little pink thong, crying! I stormed out of the room and she went downstairs to complain! A few moments later an employee came to me and asked me to leave. She actually cut up my membership right in front of me! Do I have a lawsuit? Shouldn't I be able to get my money back for the year that I paid in advance?

I witnessed a rear-end collision and money transaction on the freeway. The guy who was rear-ended sustained little to no damage, while the driver who did the rear-ending, his car is smashed really bad. I pulled over to be a witness. However, the drivers were already talking about not reporting anything to the authorities. The rear-ender paid the other driver $1,000 to walk away. Is that illegal? I think it's o.k., since both parties agreed. What do you think?

I have finally terminated a ugly 17 year relationship with my former girlfriend, who during that time gave birth to our 3 sons. She has now placed a bogus restraining order keeping me from our children and my home. We go to court in aprox 1 month on the restraing order and the attached issues of child custody and support issues. What are her rights to the property I as a single man purchased and presently am paying morgage on. After dealing with her long and current dependency on illegal drugs and legal matters that go along with them I finally had a enough. We now both have domestic violence on our records. It didn't help that for a brief time I turned to acohol as a way of coping. I took on most of the responsibilities of a married man but I always made it clear that I did not and was not going to marry her with all these ixisting problems that never seemed to go away. HOW LONG CAN SHE KEEP ME AWAY FROM MY OWN PROPERTY? IS SHE LEGALLY INTITLED TO ANY OF IT?

It is obvious that this man and his followers are all nut cases and also making money off of their hatred. It is illegal to physically harm them in anyway, although I would shed no tears if it happened. So the question is "what can be done to stop these people from spreading their hate?" "What can be done to hit them where it hurts?" Most important, "What can be done to stop them from disrupting the funerals of soldiers that have died for this country and our freedom?" just a note: I do not ever want war, although I realize sometimes it is a necessary evil. Regardless, I support the men and women that fight for us.

From pro-choice advocates we constantly hear that it is the woman's body so it is her choice alone. It doesn't matter if the choice is selfish or just a matter of convienence.

I'm going to pull a lot of hate for suggesting this, but:

By that same logic, shouldn't it be society's choice on whether a woman should be allowed to have a baby? Can't society look at a woman's lifestyle, morals, ethics, how she treats other children, whether she uses drugs, etc, etc... and be able to say, "Sorry, we don't want you to give birth to a child that has a high chance of being a criminal, a terror to humanity, or a burden to society."?

In Marbury v. Madison, 1803, the judiciary was given the power of judicial review. It seems as if this infringes upon the powers of the legislature, because striking down a law is very similar, and perhaps even equatable, with making a law. This, then, seems to throw off the carefully constructed balance of powers between the three branches, making the judiciary much more influencial than it was originially intended. Is this power actually constitutional?
