This Question is a follow up to my previous question on Abortion:

By the woman's body, woman's choice argument. Should men have the option to pay a one time fee for getting a woman pregnant that is equal to, but not exceeding the cost for an abortion. If they are not given that option or the money is not used for an abortion then the men should be exonorated of any support needed for that child.

Likewise if a man wants to be a father should he be able to get a court order to prevent an abortion?

So... by the first answerer's arguement is that (rape withstanding) although women get to choose to have sex, women get to choose whether they want to use protection, and simply because they "get caught up in the heat of the moment", they are allowed to decide whether or not the man deserves the child? Likewise the could decide to keep the child and the man (who never wanted the child) will have to pay child support.

So a woman has complete, utter, and god-like say over what "happens to her body" but men have to deal with whatever the woman decides, even if it means taking 33%-50% of his income for 18+ years?

To "Pretty_pussykat":

I can't remember the last time I was at the mall and I "casually" stuck my penis up into someone and then didn't want the baby.
Seems like the woman (disregarding rape) has a say in the casually sticking of the penis just as much as a man does.

Yes to the second part of your question. I KNOW it's the woman's body, but it's the mans' child too(as men are always being reminded once the child is born)... it should be a legal matter to some extent (and I'm a woman) but I'm not sure it should always lead to prevention.

As to the first part, I like your thinking and it's got me thinking too. I think not, because the child is the innocent party so therefore the one that would suffer. To me, it seems like an easy get out for a man and not taking responsibility. Wonder what you think.

BTW SO disagree with the statement before me.

If a man is not prepared to deal with the potential consequences of having sex with a woman he shouldn't do it. Those consequences include supporting her through an abortion or helping her support a child. Pregnancy is a little funny because although 2 people are involved in making it happen only one has to go through all that hassle. If the woman and man shared the pain and discomfort it would be a different situation altogether. In fact I believe that the whole reality of relationships would be different.
You should become a crazy genetic engineer and make it so men carry the babies, then if you want to keep or abort a child it will really be up to you. Until then you should talk over what your reaction to a pregnancy would be with any girl you want to have sex with to make sure you two see eye to eye and she doesn't have to deal with the shock of a check written out "for abortion costs" or a some lawsuit and no actual support to deal with unexpectedly being pregnant.

Good question. A question that involves the only two people who should have any say whether or not to get an abortion: the mother and the father.
First question: I think that the father should always support the child if he/she is not aborted, whether or not the father wanted the child. If the child is aborted the father should only have to pay half.
Second question: I absolutely think the father should be able to get a court order to prevent an abortion, and the mother should have to pay some sort of child support if she doesn't actively take care of the child.

There a many gray areas in this debate, but I believe it takes two to tango. If one parent wants the baby, then they should both take part in raising/supporting it.

I'm pro-choice btw, even though I would never think about pressuring my g/f to get an abortion. I would want the baby.

I see your point... why doesn't the man have the choice to not have the child after the woman becomes pregnant just like the woman?

The problem is that it is all about it being the woman's choice because it is HER body that is pregnant not the man's.

There are also other physical factors involved. For example, abortions cause scarring of the uterus and sometimes make it more difficult for a woman to carry a child later. So the woman is paying more than a financial price with her choice. That price does not affect the man.

The only thing a man can do to not be held accountable to a child he doesn't want is: NOT HAVE SEX when he knows he doesn't want a child.

I agree with part of what you're saying- if a man does not wish to be a father and the woman he has impregnated decides to keep the baby, he should have an option to give her a sum equal to half the cost of an abortion and sign away his fatherly rights and never have to pay child support.

However, a man should not be able to decide if a female has the baby or not. If he wants to be a father so badly, he can find a woman who is willing to carry his baby. He shouldn't be able to decide that a woman who doesn't want to be pregnant at all has to be an incubator until it's born.

I don't know what to tell you my friend, if I don't want to be a mommy, then I will be damned if some man is going to makle me be one on the other hand ,you should not be forced against your will to become a father and you need to think about these serious issues before you casually stick your penis up in side someone because this is where your decision making rights end, so if you play with fire you may get burned, It is a cold harsh reality my friend, and I feel for you guys do get the short end of the stick in the decision making department as to whether tokeep the child but women typically are the one's who bear the burden of responsibility and more than men ever do , this is why condoms and just say no were invented

I often wonder about this myself... if the MAN wants an abortion, why doesn't he have any choice in it? Especially since if the woman doesn't want the abortion, the man will have to pay to support the child for the next 18 years. While I get that a woman "incubates" the child for 9 months, BOTH parents should have a say in what happens both BEFORE and AFTER birth.

Only if he wants to carry it. The woman's body arguement holds weight only because to use a court order to prevent an abortion, you're also giving the court the power to ORDER a woman to BE pregnant.

I'm not sanctifying abortion. It's a death. It's a kill. I'm just not sure if it's something to be punished. A woman with any kind of heart has already punished herself by going through with it. And any woman who would not feel guilt, has done the child a favor by not baring it.

It's not as simple an issue as people make it out to be.

No, you should still have to pay child support as there will still be a child in the world in need of support!
I don't think a court could ever justify preventing an abortion because that is telling a woman that she has to put herself through pregnancy, labor and delivery. It's the woman's right to choose what happens to her body.

Yes I think that it should be up to both parties at least on the part of getting a abortion. If a father wants to keep the child a women should be responsible to him and the baby to allow this. Men have no rights in this country when it comes to Fatherhood.
