Immigration - November 2007

They are not going anywhere. There are still millions of them. You can rant about getting rid of them and wanting them all killed, but American business loves them and is still going to hire them. Certain cities are still going to protect them. Yes, there's all these little laws that are going up in small states and cities against them. But for the most part it's only hot air for the coming elections. But $$$ is what really matters not anyone's opinions.

Interesting letter...my question is: whats your opinion of it?

This is from a Hispanic who lives in Texas. He's had a column in the
Fort Worth Star Telegram and as you can see, expresses himself very
well.

ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL

I can almost assure you that everyone who is a true American was
sickened when you saw multitudes of protesters carrying Mexican
flags protesting the new Immigration Reform Bill in the Senate. This
display of Mexican flags should give you a heads up on where these
protesters allegiance lies. Their hearts are in Mexico and their
bellies are in the United States.

As an American of Mexican Heritage I want to set the record
straight.

Let's think about this, none of the stupid "we're all immigrants" crap. First of all, breaking immigration laws shows that you have no respect for our country and its citizens and you feel that you have a right to mooch off the services that we pay for with our taxes. Now, the big deal is, illegals follow certain routes and pay "coyotes"-men who get payed heavily to sneak them in and show the routes-to help them commit the crime of entering the country illegally. Does anyone think that it's a possibility that now, since we are screening out as many terrorists as we can at the borders, these coyotes could be employed to help smuggle in terrorists with possible nuclear material or other weapons?

To all of the milky white people out there do you need a change of underwhere when you here someone call you a RACIST. --

Ya see people that word stops WHITEY in his tracks and he tries to undue any wrong that was done.

That word is powerful when it is used for the right reason.
That word is overplayed by the illegal immigrant gang and it is loosing it's meaning.

Try not to over- use that word -- African Americans have had to deal with racism a lot --- I mean A LOT -- but it seems that the results of using that word by the illegal gang could be a benifical thing to them.

I am supprised that the real victims of racism are not speaking out on the overuse of this word. --

Whitey - I have given up on - they have been trained to feel the guilt and have an s- eating grin all of the time. Like they have to say sorry to be in America.

I support amnesty only for exceptional illegals...the ones who have the potential to help America versus the ones only adding to its miseries. If these exceptionally bright illegals could turn themselves into professionals: doctors, lawyers, engineers, scientists, ....value added individuals....putting themselves through school with their own money, not the government's money ; not the US taxpayers' money......and they would have a limited amount of time to effect this metamorphisis, say...no longer than the college program requires or no more than, say....10 years...maintaining throughout at least a 3.5 GPA. And, if the US could work out a deal with them whereby they agree to remain in America for 20 years minimum after graduating to contribute to this society AND if they agreed to limiting the amount of kids they had, I would definitely be for giving them amnesty...30 years hence after all that remains to be seen has been proven. Only under those terms though would I agree to it...any seditious moves on their part and they would be kicked out instantly. No one asked them to come here...they imposed themselves upon this country. However, if they intend to stay permanently, they had better WORK LIKE A CRAZY PERSON to prove that they are THE best in whatever field they choose. Do you think deporting an illegal that could be the next Madame Curie or Albert Einstein is in the best interests of the United States? What do you think?

American = White folk.

Then I keep hearing we are a nation of immigrants -- which one is it ?

I guess Americans = white folk only when there is a negitave conotation.

Then the " we are a nation of immigrants" line is popular when there is an argument for pro- draining the LEGAL taxpayer.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

...because of uncompetitive average education levels? Particularly science-related degrees?

Advisers 20 years ago were warning us that the economic success of any modern nation will depend on an ever-growing percentage of science, math, engineering and technological diplomas at the Bachelors level, at least.

In the eighties, it's all we ever heard concerning the economy. It was about how far our public schools were behind other nations, what percentage of our grads were getting BS Science/Eng to MS or PhD. Science/Eng.

In the early nineties, the LAST television factory in the United States closed.

Fast-forward to 2007 and we're suddenly in a position to adopt the 3rd world?

What's wrong with this picture?

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - Religious leaders in the Salem-area are joining a nationwide movement to give sanctuary to certain undocumented immigrants.

The move comes after immigration enforcement raids that have been separating parents from their US born children, according to Gayle McDougle, the pastor of First Congregation United Church of Christ in Salem.

Participating churches in Salem don't plan initially to house noncitizens.

But they will connect people with legal counsel, offer English as a second language courses, provide know-your-rights training, create accounts for donations and establish a family resource center where immigrants can gather in times of need.

The move comes as Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski signed an executive order to bar undocumented immigrants in Oregon from getting a drivers' license.
