The answers on Citizenship are all in error. After being in the Uk for 2 yrs you may apply for Citizenship. This would involve a simple ceromony in the town in which you reside. You cannot be in the Armed Forces unless you are a british subject. But if you were representing Britain on armed duty this would certainly count in your favour.

I wouldn't have thought so. And when your making your application, your evidence you would provide would show you were in the marines and was posted abroad. Make sure you use a 'repitable' solicitor. My husband is an immigrant and used the Immigration Advisory Service and their solicitors, here in Birmingham. They are excellent and I know they have offices in other cities in the UK. I can't remember off hand where they are and I can't remember the Birmingham branches number, but if you phone directory enquiries and ask for them in Birmingham and phone them, they should give you details of the other offices. I recommend their services. Their advice is correct.

Good luck.
