I am in a very poor country and have been given a one off chance to setup a political debate on TV for young politicians and I need pointers or at least lists of things I need to take care of before we go to press. Thanks guys... and dolls ..love you all.

Would it not be a good idea to organise a separate state for all underprivileged and poor sections of society? Would it help in proper formulation and implementation of welfare programmes exclusively for the targeted groups? Just for expediency, efficiency, economy and proper utilisation of the resources?

In the 90's the US military did a war game on just what it would take to secure and subdue Iraq. They came to the conclusion that it would take 400,000 troops 4 to 5 years to achieve the objectives of setting up a democracy in iraq and that then it may not work. They predicted nearly 100% the things that have happened over the past 5 years. It is public record that vet benifits have been cut and that troops are getting poor equipment and not enough of it.
So I ask you who is it that is really not supporting our troops?
I am very proud of our troops and have done much to show it but I do not think given what we know they need and given what they are being supplied with they're mission can be successful therefore why throw teir lives away over an incompetent commander and chief that has armchair quartedbacked his generals since day one?

With so much hatred , mistrust , disbelief among each other , among different population group ,we are , at present , at best , a big country , and not a "nation" , as we project ourselves . There have been progresses in various sectors , but that is mostly due to individual efforts and not through collective , systematic approach . One Narayanmurthy , one Ambani , one Tata , one Amartya Sen ..... Where are the others ?
There is a section at the bottom , who do their job religiously ( say farmers ) . For them , it does not matter who is controlling "the system" . There is a section at the top , who do not care , who is controlling "the system" (if there is any at all !!!) , because they can buy the system . And , there is a section in the middle , who constitutes the bulk of this "proposed nation" , who cares a lot as to who is controlling "the system" , but who is totally at a loss as to what is to be done to "weave the genuine feelings of a nation" .

I'm just curious... Congress set the mileage requirements during the Oil Crisis of the '70's... and magically during the late 80's and 90's they disappeared from all ads... why ?

HOW did this happen, WHAT were the laws that allowed it... and SHOULD we stick the fat-politicians with a bill or fine ?

How many people actually still think about that day? How many of you appreciate this country, no matter the short comings? I just think it's a day that shouldn't be forgotten. I think everyone should take time time and appreciate the men and women who helped, and pray for the families that live that moment over and over every minute of every day. Just a bit emotional today and think it should just be a reminder to everyone, that it did happen, and that we should never forget.

I happened to run into an article on Wikpedia examining the potential candidates for the 51st U.S. state (which, keep in mind, may never exist) which can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/51st_State

I was surprised to note that one of the suggested countries (among others such as Guyana, Japan, the Alberta Province of Canada, etc.) was Britain.

As a link in the article suggests, this would give Britain several great advantages over the other states: The U.K. would be the most populous and wealthy state by far, thereby weilding huge power in Congress.

The cultural, social, and economic ties the two countries share already would make integration relatively easy as, say, compared to joining the E.U., which consists of many cultures that do not share the U.K.'s values.

Please keep in mind, I'm not actually advocating this, nor do I even believe it to be entirely plausible. I was simply curious as to what the British might actually think of such a proposal.

Thanks,

Sterfrye

Farmers who make less than $200,000 a year get a check from the U.S. Government for $50,000 and some get paid NOT to farm. If they have crop damage they get a check from the U.S. Government. They get all kinds of "welfare" from the U.S. Government but they vote Republican and vote for candidates who want to slash Food Stamps, Head Start and other social programs for poor people. They are against Hispanics getting Driver's Licenses because they're illegal even though this prevents them from getting car insurance and when they have a car accident in the city, they go back to Mexico and the person they hit is left holding the bag. Don't say they deserve it because one farmer feeds 351 people because we can get grain imported from Egypt, and other produce imported from Mexico. In fact, go to Wal-Mart. They already do get their produce from Mexico.
