I'm from San Antonio and I have a very good friend in a small town in Michigan called Pullman. She hates that governor. She says that she is the reason for many stupid taxes. She has to drive to Indiana just to buy cigarettes at a decent price. I was there for a week and nearly went broke because of it. I don't know what a "service tax" is but it has to totally suck. Y'all should really oust that governor.

Ok let's first understand what this service tax is.

It is a regional tax on services to be used for financing Southeast Michigan's transit, road and sewer needs. Specifically it is a two-penny sales tax on services such as haircuts, dry cleaning and lawn care, to help plug a massive hole in the state budget.

Governor Granholm hopes to implement it by June 1 and revenue predictions for it are:
- would raise $1.5 billion in the next fiscal year, beginning Oct. 1.
- would generate $576 million in the current fiscal year.

I personally don't like the idea because it targets small businesses. If any state needs additional revenue, they should begin to cut corporate welfare and not small business needs.

Unfortunately, our state in in terrible financial shape. The income tax is at least a definate percentage ;fair to everyone; property taxes only serve to punish people who buy tangible things; taxes on services, alchohol, beer, cigarettes, and garbage food are fair in the light of them being luxuries not needs.
P.S. I smoke, drink, and have an on and off affair withe the Burger KIng.
