If the Pilgrims are the best example of how to immigrate, then refusing to assimilate and refusing to learn the native language are the examples to emulate, right?

Why do Pilgrims and Europeans get a free pass for refusing to assimilate into Indian cultures?

I do agency work, but every work place the agency sent me, work politics is so rife and it's demotivating. I look after people with learning and physical disabilities. I don't feel like going back. Management change has taken place several times but the culture within the organisation still the same. From middle management upward, they hide behind their bureaucratic system/policy because it protects them but no protection for the frontline workers.

...into aborting the American Constsitution over a "manufactured" issue like immigration. If so, you do not have much faith in our court, our system or our Constitution.
My suggestion is that the politician racist thatare exploiting nieve voters tie a long string along the border the sign it like an artist signs an abstract then say "we meant it to be that way".

-- or are we too fat, dumb and happy to bother?

Yes, I think we're at a crisis point. Taking away basic civil liberties is a serious matter, because once taken away, it's almost impossible to get them back. As a rule, they don't get taken away by dramatic strokes, but rather eaten away, eroded. That's what Bush and company (read Cheney) are doing. The difficulty is that a lot of people simply don't care, either because they approve of harsh treatment of people they perceive as enemies, or because they simply use all their energy just getting through the day.

The hope is the peculiar genius of a democratic form of government. Over time it tends to balance itself, to correct wild swings that result from crises and reach a stable point. It remains to be seen whether we can do that under the current stresses. Winston Churchill said that democracy is a very poor form of government --- but it's better than any other form we have been able to come up with.

The people at the controls right now are ideologues, and if they have their way we will end up with some kind of unholy alliance of big business and Christian conservatism. Military-industrial theocracy isn't something I would like to live under. I used to vote Republican. I won't anymore. I didn't leave the GOP; they left me. But the Dems aren't much better. A viable Independent Party might be the answer, but the pols on both sides of the aisle will do their level best to stop that from happening, because it threatens their grip on power. Yeah, I'd call that a crisis. W will go down, I am confident, as the worst President we have ever had, against some stiff competition (e.g., Harding). The damage he has done -- diplomatic, social, financial, military -- will take generations to correct. He richly deserves to be impeached, or even tried as a war criminal. But I don't think we are up to that, for reasons cited above.

1-The war card.
You know, fight an illegal and unconstitutional war until the funds run out and/or we need a draft, because King George says so. And oh yeah, if you dont go for this crap youre just chicken.Bwak!

2-The "moral values" card.
If Larry craig didnt bust it open once and for all that a Republican is not necissarily more "moral" than a Democrat, then YOU havent been paying attention!

And then there is the fear in the GOP that the MoveOn ads contain more actual data that is in the public's interest than those heinous "Swift boat" ads the Republicans refuse to discuss.

What are the republicans have left to run on NOW?
"Vote for us because the financial divide is good for people on the wrong side of it"? "Cheap labor keeps Ohio RED"?

What? I mean BESIDES smear tatics....

THIS should be interesting.

Gore helped found Generation Investment Management, through which he and others pay for offsets. The firm invests the money in solar, wind and other projects that reduce energy consumption around the globe, she said...

Gore is chairman of the firm and, presumably, draws an income or will make money as its investments prosper. In other words, he "buys" his "carbon offsets" from himself, through a transaction designed to boost his own investments and return a profit to himself. To be blunt, Gore doesn't buy "carbon offsets" through Generation Investment Management - he buys stocks.

You see things like this all of the time. A comapny sees some success, and suddenly, the workers aren't getting a fair deal. They are worth more. They want to share in the profits.

OK.

But on the flip side, what about when business suffers? Do workers feel that their labor is now worth less? Are the unions willing to take cuts in pay, and share in the misfortune of their employer?

This question is obviously slightly rhetorical in nature, as unions are indeed very quick to demand raises, but very slow to cede anything.

I suppose my primary question is directed to union supporters. How do you justify this apparent double standard?

or do you think there is a bit of caution about what they say considering they are still under command by superiors?

I ask this because alot of former "retired" generals who used to run Bush's war later come out against it.

The same is true about civilian positions. Take Allen Greenspan. Now that he's no longer employed by the government, he has said that the Iraq was was about oil, that the tax cuts were too huge, and were the reason for the big deficits.

Do you think General Patraes might be in a similar position?

Say what your superiors want to hear?

What if the Peak Oil theory is true? There is much evidence out there that points to this. Wouldn't you think that Texas oil millionaire politicians and oil companies would be the first to know and work together to suppress the facts.
If we are facing a worldwide oil crisis doesn't this explain a lot of things going on right now.

Let's see , the republicans have 3 maybe 4 real contenders - Guiliani , Thompson , Romney , and maybe McCain .

The Moveon Party has a few contenders of their own - Hillary , Obama , and maybe Edwards (but probably not Edwards).

The Party formerly known as the Democratic Party has one -- Joe Biden .
Note : Biden was the only honorable formerly democratic candidate to condemn an attack on another honorable man 4-Star General David Petraeus .

So which party will win ?

I do. I can't stand single mothers, hoodies, foreigners, the chronically lazy, people who can't be bothered to learn English, fatties, people with too many children, etc the list goes on.
I mean- I earnt it- why shouldn't I be able to allocate the money to the generation who made this nation great- ie our current older pensioners- instead of some little loose-kneed teenage scrubber and her towny boyfriend afraid of latex, some moronic yobbo too lazy to work or some garlicky foriegner with their grubby hand outstretched- these are precisely the shite of society who are ruining this nation.
Why should they get free health etc?

Sick to death of it I am. Thieves, rogues and never-do-wells the lot of them- they should bloody-well starve like in the 3rd world- if you don't work there= you don't eat. Simple.
You don't see too many lazy people in Asia.

What about you? Do you think all benefits should be cut to the able under-60's?
