I do agency work, but every work place the agency sent me, work politics is so rife and it's demotivating. I look after people with learning and physical disabilities. I don't feel like going back. Management change has taken place several times but the culture within the organisation still the same. From middle management upward, they hide behind their bureaucratic system/policy because it protects them but no protection for the frontline workers.

I did agency work too (Nursing) And endured the same ... Sadly there was nothing i could do except hope and pray that whoever phoned me was not involved in the office politics. When this happened it was wonderful. Most of us felt pretty disenchanted and left for another agency where office staff didn't spend their time fighting over office politics but getting us, their nurses, good shifts while also ensuring that none of us should be affected by what had driven most of us to reconsider nursing because it was so bad!

So i can empathise with you. It is a real predicament. You need your job if you just want to be able to do it well and without any aggro due to the fact that others prefer to fight among themselves rather than see that, and when it comes to agencies, staff should be their priority!

Unfortunately, the only way to fix this is for everyone from the CEO downward to DEMAND change. Cultures are a funny thing to deal with - people don't change unles\s it benefits them, or unless they have to.
If the CEO is very strong about his expectations and filters that through everyone below him, you'd be surprised at how quickly things change.
My company is exactly this way - nobody is unclear about what our CEO views as important, and you'd better believe that what's important to the CEO is also important to every last person working here.

I just returned from a board meeting. I work for a non-profit that helps seniors. What a bunch of BS on this board. Amazing how when someone is on a board they puff up with power. Anyhow I don't know how to stop work politics. If you find a way let me know.
