or do you think there is a bit of caution about what they say considering they are still under command by superiors?

I ask this because alot of former "retired" generals who used to run Bush's war later come out against it.

The same is true about civilian positions. Take Allen Greenspan. Now that he's no longer employed by the government, he has said that the Iraq was was about oil, that the tax cuts were too huge, and were the reason for the big deficits.

Do you think General Patraes might be in a similar position?

Say what your superiors want to hear?

I'm not sure. Did Jane Fonda think POWs in Vietnam would tell her how they really feel about their captors?..........

Of course they don't. They aren't allowed to criticize their superiors by their own rules. They can be court martialed for doing so.

It's only when the order is illegal can they refuse - and they then have the burden of proof.

According to military law, an active duty soldier is to remain in rank, and apolitical. If any of them DID make a comment, they would be in violation of military laws, and anyone who asks them to answer these questions, is asking a soldier to break the law.

That's a good point, and I think a valid one. I'd have to say that most of us "say what our superiors want to hear."

No, one thing is keeping quiet for fear of the UCMJ. Another is being a top general and perpetuating a lie. Colin Powell is guilty of this and it ruined him.

I'm sure that is very true. Do employees really lay it all out when speaking of their employers, especially in front of the media?

Not on a bet...

They will always say what your superiors want to hear.
