I do think we need reforms in our health care system, but why do so many Americans assume that socialized medicine works so well? I thought it was pretty great until I found out that my cousin in Ireland had to wait a full 3 months after diagnosis to get treatment for breast cancer, just because of how slow the system was. One of my friends with roots in Canada sees similar cases with very slow, often sub-par treatments. It seems that only a few countries have found success with socialized medicine, but success in the area is uncommon. Does anyone else get tired of hearing that America needs socialized medicine?

I did some number crunching using average dollar amounts from my own and others experiences and data form the US Census Bureau and CDC.

1) Routine Doctor visit:
$150 x 302 million people (everybody gets one) = $45.3 billion. This does not include ANY additional tests.

2) My wife's recent C-section:
$12000 x 1.2million C-sections in '04 (most recent records I could find) = $14.4 Billion

Total = $59.7 billion or $200 per tax payer.

This dollar amount includes very little, especially since C-sections only account for 30% of the births. Also, I have nothing in here about medication. Then we add long term care situation (cancer, aids, disabilities) and this dollar figure could be $5k per tax payer, not including the other taxes the government flushes down the toilet.

Where do we get the money, liberals??

--Ending the war is a stupid answer.
--Taxing business an even more stupid answer
--This additional tax is good, is a stupid person

How can a repeated sex offender/child molester get bailed out of jail, but a person who went to jail for fighting once in self defense can't? I've seen people in both scenarios & the child molesters get bailed out every time, but this one girl I know got into a fight & she's not getting bailed out. What's up with that?

Obviously he is a great President. Only those mentally challenged individuals sufferring from Bush Derangement Syndrome fail to see that.

So I am trying to decide in a historical context how great is King W?

He obviously is the greatest President since Reagan, but I think there is a strong argument he is greater than even Reagan.

So how far back do we have to go to find a greater President? Lincoln? Washington?

Does Dubya stand alone as the greatest President the US has ever had? If so, is he the greatest leader any nation has ever had?

America's first Muslim congressman has provoked outrage by apparently comparing President George W Bush to Adolf Hitler and hinting that he might have been responsible for the September 11 attacks.

Addressing a gathering of atheists in his home state of Minnesota, Keith Ellison, a Democrat, compared the 9/11 atrocities to the destruction of the Reichstag, the German parliament, in 1933. This was probably burned down by the Nazis in order to justify Hitler's later seizure of emergency powers.

"It's almost like the Reichstag fire, kind of reminds me of that," Mr Ellison said. "After the Reichstag was burned, they blamed the Communists for it, and it put the leader [Hitler] of that country in a position where he could basically have authority to do whatever he wanted."

I'm in college studying political science and I think I'd like to be an attorney. Many people in my family are/were attorney's and I think it is what I was made to do. However I'd sorta like a life too . Do all lawyers work 16 hour days and weekends? I'm not particularly interested in becoming hugely rich, it'd be nice, but having a life and family is nicer.

Is there legal work available thats not......all consuming? Are most lawyers generally successful no matter where they work? Are there poor lawyers (financially, ha)?

I try this a third time, quit twisting my words around and answer the question with maturely. My question is this, why is it that people who dont want illegals in this country are hated on by pro-illegals and are called raciest because of their views. Nothing about our views are raciest but all we want is for them to be come legal and qute stealing from our americans hard earned money. They dont pay taxes and feel they have a right to a country, they have not payed a single legal dime to be here. If they dont get their way they cry to the ACLU and sue the very same people they steal taxes from. It makes me mad becase those who have fought to become legal dont have the respect they deserve becase they have work with the system here and other dont. People make the argument that they do jobs that we wont, well if owners would pay the correct wage for US workers to do the job and do the right thing. Any person looking for a job to support their family will do the work. PERIOD

If I see a man with a red baseball hat rob a local bank, is it logical and accurate to say that "All men that wear red baseball hats are bank robbers?" If I see a group of church ladies with an average age of 62 playing bingo, is it fair and accurate to say that all church ladies who are 62 play bingo? If I see 100 senior citizens arrive by bus to a Las Vegas Casino, can I logically say "All senior citizens are gamblers?" If I see a group of college students skipping their morning history class, can I say all college students skip their classes?

It is amazing how the radio talk show hosts and the politicians from both parties have convinced intelligent Americans that stereotyping people is a valid and logical way to argue a point.

Don't call people 'fat'. Equal opportunites for disabled people etc. What is wrong with being nice? Why are people so scared of being PC. It is not a bad thing... Obviously I know why people are over-reacting, it's because some people are taking the p'ee and saying we're not allowed to celebrate christmas etc (which is definitely rubbish)!
