The terrorists that hijacked the planes lived in America for years before the attacks. They were trained to fly planes here. I'm sure they found the date to be an ironic one to attack the country.

edit: In case you're still looking at this, I also found out that 9/11 was also the date Palestinians killed 11 Israeli Olmpians in 1972, and was also the date George Bush Sr. gave his Gulf War speech in 1990. Food for thought.

I don't think it was a coincidence. They had been planning that attack for years. They aren't stupid people. I mean they make stupid choices, but they knew what they were doing.
