I am a Democrat... I do not beleive in communism, conspiracy theories, flag burning, amnesty or drug legalization... so why do people say I do?

From the Washington Monthly:
In 1904, disgusted by the aftermath of the Spanish-American War and the subsequent Philippine-American War, Mark Twain wrote a short anti-war prose poem called “The War Prayer.” His family begged him not to publish it, his friends advised him to bury it, and his publisher rejected it, thinking it too inflammatory for the times. Twain agreed, but instructed that it be published after his death, saying famously:

“None but the dead are permitted to tell the truth.”

“O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle — be Thou near them! With them — in spirit — we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved firesides to smite the foe.
O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells.
Help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead.
Help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain.
Help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire.
Help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief.
Help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it.
For our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet!
We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts.
Amen.”

A friend of mine is off to join the Army in the summer but the regiment is based in Germany (we're British).

Does this mean you don't get to come home to the UK very often, as if you were based in Britain you could just jump on the bus at weekends but can't really do this from Europe?!

Thanks

If they fall sick, too bad ,they die of the common ailment, at work, as long as they get the job done, who cares about thier employment right, this way we can keep recycling them by pretending they are not here whilst deep down we are taking advantage of them.............Is this the way to treat Illegal Immigrants

Republicans are Red- symbolizes energy of life, bravery, love and spirituality. Home life, your family and where you live are important to you. The colour red warms and regenerates to make you aware of life's force. As this is an active colour it energizes the impression on our senses and psyche but can also indicate a disposition to behave aggressively. With this colour you may be more concerned with worldly rather than spiritual interests. Also you are security conscious and like to know your finances are safe

Democrats are Blue- symbolizes spirituality, creativity, revelation, speaking and inner listening. Blue has the inclination to promote the growth of withdrawal and stimulates the tendency for psychic freedom from others, and a dedication to you as a unique individual. This colour creates a feeling of calm open spaces, awakening you to your spiritual inspiration.

Iraq was a huge mistake and diversion of our attention IMO. We should be fighting terrorists like we are now in Somalia - using close ties with allies.

"This is a global war on terror and the U.S. remains committed to reducing terrorist capabilities when and where we find them," Pentagon spokesman Bryan Whitman said.

"We recognize the importance of working closely with allies to seek out, identify, locate, capture, and if necessary, kill terrorists and those who would provide them safe haven," Whitman said. "The very nature of some of our operations, as well as the success of those operations is often predicated on our ability to work quietly with our partners and allies."

I totally agree with this guy.

"As Steven Guilbeault of Greenpeace explained, "global warming can mean colder, it can mean drier, it can mean wetter." No set of facts can disprove the environmentalists' secular religion. In 2004, former vice president Al Gore gave a speech on global warming in New York City on the coldest day of the year. Warm trends prove global warming. Cold trends also prove global warming. This is the philosophy of a madman." - Ann Coulter

My dad was a California resident, and died unexpectedly, but he left a handwritten Will leaving 100% of his estate to his four children. He had a surviving spouse, so I'm assuming his estate will only consist of his 50% interest in the community property (which I think pretty much applies to all of it). He also tried to leave 100% of his 401K to his four children, but from what I understand, 401Ks are not generally probated. Will the value of the 401K be shown in probate, effectively giving the children the value of the 401K, or are the kids just out of luck? In other words, will the children receive the value of the 401K money even though the actual 401K is not transferred to them?

different than the current Iraq one?

We ran out of Somalia with our tails between our legs and that led to Black Hawk Down. Now, here we are a decade later having to go back to fight terrorism again. We did not help a new democracy thrive there.

How is the Somalia situation any different? What makes you think we will not have the same problems in Iraq if we do not finish the job?

This article is the second one this year about having to go back to Somalia. Ethopia was the first to go back.

Do they just lose the race, or do you believe that they are not voted for because of their religion?

I believe that JFK was the only Catholic President, if I am not mistaken.

An Arizona man who mortgaged his house to finance a small fence on someone else's private land along the U.S.-Mexico border is suing the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps for putting up cheap cattle fencing rather than an "Israeli-style" barrier, and failing to complete even that.

"Jim Campbell is a great American," declared MCDC President Chris Simcox a year ago, when Campbell gave the group $100,000 for the fence project. Campbell said then, "I can now rest comfortably knowing that I can look the next generation in the eye and say to them: 'We stepped up and did what we could to preserve the future of your country.'" Now Campbell has changed his tune.
