Soldiers in Iraq view troop surge as a lost cause
By Tom Lasseter
McClatchy Newspapers

Staff Sgt. Robert Johnson, 29, of Montgomery, Alabama, questions two Iraqis digging a ditch on the side of the road.
"AND" Army 1st Lt. Antonio Hardy took a slow look around the east Baghdad neighborhood that he and his men were patrolling. He grimaced at the sound of gunshots in the distance. A machine gunner on top of a Humvee scanned the rooftops for snipers. Some of Hardy's men wondered aloud if they'd get hit by a roadside bomb on the way back to their base.

"To be honest, it's going to be like this for a long time to come, no matter what we do," said Hardy, 25, of Atlanta. "I think some people in America don't want to know about all this violence, about all the killings. The people back home are shielded from it; Many Americans don't want to see the violence. Out of sight and out of mind. "We are not going to win over here in Iraq" Johnson said. It's a lost cause.

Bush asking for another $245 billion for Iraq and Afghanistan.
America has already spent almost $400 billion so far and it's projected that by the end of 2008, those wars will be at a total cost of more than $700 billion.

Where's this money coming from?

I want us to get out of there victorious but, this is bordering on the ridiculous.

The Governorship of Texas is a token political position with limited powers. How did anyone in their right mind think this experience made Bush a good candidate for President?

Do you think Iran is the major supplier? Or who do you think is? And if they are coming across Iraq's borders, why aren't they being stopped?

Most liberals support the cut and run policy of the democratic party. How does this keep terrorism at bay. Nancy P has suggested a group hug will work in battling terrorist but I am worried that when i am hugging them they will blow the bomb up that is strapped to there chest.

who do you fear? Muslims, who have an opposing irrational belief system.

So, what you fear is irrationality, not rationality, right?

And thousands of tons of loose ordinance still out there?

We don't even speak the language. And Bush dared them to "bring it on". Well......this is just the beginning.

That we are not happy with the way they disregard what we think? We are tired of the high taxes, the big spenders, our borders being over run, secret deals being made behind our backs, out-sourcing-the never ending wars with no end, started for no good reason.every one makes mistakes but nobody gets fired, whats that about?Close those oversea bases bring them home.We need to build here now, invest here now.But I could be wrong I maybe the only one who's had it.

I'm 19 and I want to go to Iraq and here's why: I'm terse, anti-social, intelligent, and dark. I can't explain why I am the way I am, but most people think I'm a serial killer or at least "really sketchy" when they first meet me. I want to be a war veteran so they'll think Iraq is the reason I'm so dark, even though I was like that in the first place.

I know I'm mentally prepared for war because I'm smarter and darker than everyone else my age, and I don't really care if I die because I kind of want to. However, I really don't want to get crippled. What are my odds of being crippled in combat?
