After the Civil War, slavery was outlawed, and the plation owners slaves, which they paid for and which greatly contributed to produciton on the plantations were freed by the government and they were given no compensation. As a result many plantation owners lost there property (slaves) and went bankrupt, and the goverment never paid them back. I hear all this talk about blacks getting paid compensation for there ancestors being enslaved, but what about the land owners who had there property taken from them, shouldn't there ancestors who were robbed get something? How would you like it if someone stole your property and ruined you? What do you think?

(09-23) 04:00 PDT Washington -- House Speaker Dennis Hastert stood before the cameras Thursday placing big red check marks on a list of nine border-enforcement bills that have passed the House -- including a 700- mile, double-layer fence ridiculed by critics all year but headed for the Senate floor next week.

At least for now, House Republican leaders have succeeded in their take-no-prisoners approach to immigration despite nationwide protests by Latinos last spring and White House warnings that they are endangering their party's future.

Refusing to compromise with the Senate and their own president to widen paths to legal entry and give the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in the country now an avenue to citizenship, Hastert and other House GOP leaders have successfully framed that approach as amnesty.

The House has prevailed "because that's where the country is," said Rep. Dan Lungren, R-Gold River (Sacramento County). "This is a situation where members in both the House and the Senate have listened to the folks back home."

Critics conceded a setback but argued that it would be temporary. They said enforcement alone won't stop illegal immigration but will alienate Latino voters, the nation's fastest-growing voter bloc. They said it will turn Republicans into a minority party, much as when former Gov. Pete Wilson won re-election in 1994 on an anti-immigrant platform that ultimately helped make California a Democratic-majority state.

"There are very serious political implications to what they are doing today," said Cecilia Munoz, chief lobbyist for the National Council of La Raza. "If 40 percent of my community supported Bush in the 2004 elections, it's very hard to imagine in this environment that proportion of Latinos voting for candidates from a party which continues to insult them."

For now, however, the political tide clearly favors enforcement first, legalization later.

Do you think polygraph tests are a reliable way to find out if someone is lying? Or is a polygraph 'iffy' as evidence of lying? How many REAL criminals have been nabbed by polygraph evidence as part of an investigation? What other uses does polygraph testing have and can it be abused?

U.S. companies build sweat shops in Mexico and the pay is appx. $40.00 to $60.00 weekly, which is $160 -$240 per month. Would you be able to pay rent, utilities, work expenses, etc. and feed your family? I don't think so, even if you lived there. If the U.S. government passed a law regulating companies to pay a minimum wage, would it help?

I live in the state of California, my neighboors have the habit of having a party every weekend. At first I was okay with it, but it's gotten a little out of hand. They always play there music soo loud, that I cant even hear my own T.V. I've called the police plenty of times and they seem to do nothing about it. Is there a law or something I can do for them to keep it down or minimized they special events? (other than me shooting there speakers). Can I sue them??

P.S. I've tried going over and telling them to keep it down (they dont care)

Stoning women, temporary marriages, cutting off hands of thieves, beheading adulterers, and many other acts reported to be punishments in the Middle East are wrong and are unforgiveable. I suspect most muslims find them abhorrent too, but these are not reasons to hate all muslims.

International Bodies, the UN and countries should make it illegal for these acts to be performed. That is a way of stopping these barbaric acts.

My friend told me that she heard a rumor that the Titanic was hi-jacked and it never actually hit an iceburg, but that it actually exploded and that's why it split in two. But what they did was plant smaller explosives in the front of the ship first, and they went off starting the ship to sink. All the First Class passengers got off safely, and while the ship was tipping up to sink, little did the people know, there were stronger explosives in the middle of the ship. They went off and the ship split in half. And then all those 3rd class people stuffed at the bottom of the ship died.

Possibly a work fo Al Qaeda? Very similar to the U.S.S. Cole. I think it is suspicious and President Bush needs to investigate this further, as this could be a danger to current cruise ships.
