Spy Agencies Say Iraq War Worsens Terror Threat

WASHINGTON, Sept. 23 (New York Times) — A stark assessment of terrorism trends by American intelligence agencies has found that the American invasion and occupation of Iraq has helped spawn a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks.

The classified National Intelligence Estimate attributes a more direct role to the Iraq war in fueling radicalism than that presented either in recent White House documents or in a report released Wednesday by the House Intelligence Committee, according to several officials in Washington involved in preparing the assessment or who have read the final document.

The intelligence estimate, completed in April, is the first formal appraisal of global terrorism by United States intelligence agencies since the Iraq war began, and represents a consensus view of the 16 disparate spy services inside government. Titled “Trends in Global Terrorism: Implications for the United States,’’ it asserts that Islamic radicalism, rather than being in retreat, has metastasized and spread across the globe.

My legal guardian wants me to go to Texas with her for 2 months next summer. By that time i will be 17 years-old and I was wondering if I have the right to decide to stay at home by myself while she goes to Texas.

Why? Every time I turn around, I hear ingrates like Nancy Pelosy, Barbara Boxer, and Ted Kennedy launching VERBAL JIHADS against the United States! And for what? Do they believe Osama Bin Ladin needs rhetorical help??

Can you at least tell me why the DNC talking points and the Al Quaeda talking points are ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME??

Honestly? This shows there needs to be an investigation so this NEVER happens again - beit inside workings, government sponsored terrorism or just criminal neglegence.

Long article, but everyone needs to read it, if you have time. To sum it, Muckracker requested a FOIA (freedom of information act) release of the Bin Laden and all paper trails that connect with it - showing where it came from and how it got into the government's hands.

The response was, "The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs conducted a search of its files and located no records responsive to your request."

The DOD themselves held the press release in 2001 and showed the tape.

I don't care who you support, they are covering something up. Even if it is simply neglegence. This goes beyond party lines because this wouldn't stay supressed unless DEMS WERE HELPING THE SUPRESSION.

This is people covering everyone's hides and who knows who is paying.

My girlfriend thinks since i'm gonna be a Helicopter Mechanic in the Army, that i won't be involved in the fight in Iraq. I don't know if i should tell her that i will be involved, and that i will most likely go to Iraq. Everyone, no matter what MOS they got, are out there fighting right? She thinks only the people who got Combat jobs fight.

I don't wanna scare her, but what should i do?

I am tired of doing the yellow pages and explaining my situation. Is there a website I can put out my fact situation and have lawyers contact me if they are interested? If not, any other out-side-the-box solutions would be appreciated. Tried a referral service, poor results. I would even consider hiring one! Any ideas on sites lawyers look for employment? Thanks for the help.

Chavez would drop the price of oil to $50 a barrel, "not too high, a fair price," he said -- a third less than the $75 a barrel for oil recently posted on the spot market. That would bring down the price at the pump by about a buck, from $3 to $2 a gallon.

But our President has basically told Chavez to take his cheaper oil and stick it up his pipeline because Bush is an ignorant delayed hick and war criminal.

So we Americans lose and the power elite keep finding new and interesting ways to funnel your money up the pipe to their bank accounts.

VIVA CHAVEZ!!!

Noam Chomsky is famous for speaking his mind, even if that means criticizing U.S. foreign policy. He often talked in his lecture about injustices happening in the world and how U.S. as a sole superpower is not doing right things to promote peace and properity in the world.
I watched number of interviews of him and he seemed genuine and outspoken, not afraid of talking about tough issues. What is general American's view of Noam Chomsky? Has any of you read his book, "Hegemony or Survival: America's Quest for Global Dominance?" If yes, what do you think of the book? Thanks in advance for any insights.

couldnt we(us gov.) use the atm's in this country, that surely have the provisions to handle the load, to have our elections?
it could all go down with like a tax break for(like they need it haha) for the atm network owners. they could do daily business, but also take a voter regestration card with a pin, taking out the old im dead and voting thing.
they have the whole thing wired so you could even conduct a recount. it would be convenient, and could you as an individual start to see the savings in conducting an election this way?
P.S. you cant get your voter card activated without reading the real ballot issue's!

don't get me wrong, I love the USA but this is my question. Why is it that we are the most powerful nation in the world and the wealthiest but we send money to other countries for aids research, help the homeless, help the starving and the poor, but we have the same thing here. People (children) starving to death daily, Childern dieing because there families cant afford health insurance. Families homeless because the can't afford a home. Don't we the USA print our own money then why the hell is this happening. Also why does the government give welfare to people who don't want to work and those who can't work (illness\disability) can't get assistance.
