You "really don't get what "the point" is of having Bush as President." The question is completely ambiguous. Do you not understand what the point is of having a president? That's a basic Government class question. And the answer has a long and interesting history going back to the late 18th century. Are you asking what the point is of having a president if the president is GW Bush? Well, for that question you might consider what his stated objectives for the country have been since he went into office. You might look to see how those objectives have changed throughout his presidency. Then you would look at his record. What has he specifically accomplished. Not what has he said he will accomplish, but what has he been personally responsible for during his time in office. These are hard questions that answer your ambiguous question. The answers will not be easy to find.

The point is... we elected him. It's that simple. Whoever we elect next time, there will be people who aren't happy with the choice, but that's the way it will be. In my opinion, Bush isn't perfect, but I feel he has been a good, strong President. I shudder to think what would be happening if his opponent had won. However, the main thing is to make sure we vote; voicing our opinion is important and thank God we have a country in which we can do just that.

so that we can learn to have a better sense of humor
A Suggestion
George Bush has started an ill-timed and disastrous war under false pretenses by lying to the American people and to the Congress; he has run a budget surplus into a severe deficit; he has consistently and unconscionably favored the wealthy and corporations over the rights and needs of the population; he has destroyed trust and confidence in, and good will toward, the United States around the globe; he has ignored global warming, to the world's detriment; he has wantonly broken our treaty obligations; he has condoned torture of prisoners; he has attempted to create a theocracy in the United States; he has appointed incompetent cronies to positions of vital national importance.
Now, would someone please give him a ******** so we can impeach him?

Speaking as a Republican that has been incredibly disappointed with Bush, at least he is better than any Democrat that I can think of.

instead of answering your question, because it is pointless I would like to point to the alternative. In the last election we had a choice between Bush and Kerry.
Kerry would never act. He would over analyze and wait for perfect proof before he would act.... Much like the Clinton Admin did when they failed to capture OBL because they were concerned it was illegal
