All Politicians are, at best, economical with the truth aren't they? Listen to any political chat show, and they avoid answering the question asked if it is an awkward one. Listen to the promises they make before they get elected to represent you............and then do their own thing! The Hungarian PM (who apparently models himself on Mr Blair, and whom Mr Blair has been quoted as saying he is a personal friend) has managed to cause a big stir in the last week after leaked tapes were published where he admitted he had lied to win the elections. Three nights of rioting followed here in Budapest!

If I'm a member of a political party are you saying that I'm either
(a) a liar?
(b) a liar?
(c) a power hungry twit?
Or do you just mean the MPs? And what's a salmon socialist? I've never heard this phrase before - seriously, if there's a genuine term here please explain. Or do you mean champagne socialist?
In answer to your question: No, yes, always have been, please yourself, no.
But irrespective of party politics, there are a lot of MPs who work extremely hard for their constituencies putting the kind of hours in that would lead to normal folk laying down their tools and going out on strike. - Seriously, you try doing 18 hour days seven days a week. You think their work is just those snippets you see of them in the Chamber? What about all the committees that scrutinise legislation, the endless meetings to progress individual constituency cases, the surgeries, the correspondence etc etc.
Over conference season politicians, delegates and visitors will be putting in a full day - on conference floor, at fringe meetings and lobby events - sometimes from 8am (at breakfast meetings) through to midnight.
These people are committed to what they believe in. If you believe in something different maybe you should engage with the parties and put across your views. You might find the responses you get interesting, and if you got more involved you might find that the parties do agree policy by way of consultation so you there are always ways in which you can have a say. In fact a lot of government legislation includes a process of consultation - if you're not happy maybe you should take a more active role in our democracy.

It will always be the same until the British people finally get off their backsides and get a written constitution (one made by the people themselves). Without one we just go round and round with vested interests conning us.
The older people are right - politicians are a total waste of time unless we, the people, tell them, order them, how they are to act. That means a written constitution and not the present absurd semi-royal, undemocratic, party system of first past the post. It's a mockery. Let's try democracy. It's called 'socialism' - the radical idea that true sovereignty is in the people themselves, not in tradition.

You may be expecting too much from our politicians. When they enter politics they probably do it for the right reasons but, after a couple of years personal ambition takes over. From then on they are willing to do almost anything, say almost anything to keep their seats, their big salary and pensions that most people can only dream about.
