Okay, so I want another pet. I own two cats-one hunter and one princess-two scorpions, and now I want a snake. So far the ball python has been appealing to me. I've read that this snake can max out at 5ft-which isn't people-eating size but its big for a cat. My fear is that it will get out and I will be lessened by 2 cats. People at petco tell me that they feed them rabbits which is roughly the size of a cat. So I just want an opinon- can I get this python and my cats be safe? Or am I better off get something like a corn snake, which can hit the same length (roughly) but not the same girth- so my kitties can have a shot if it gets out?? And do they have Salmonella shots for snakes (I know thats waayy off subject)?

I currently have two male painted turtles. When i got them i thought they were one of each sex. I later learned they weren't. I wanted to breed them but I'm not sure where I can find a female because I got my other two from my cousins. Does anyone know if pet stores sell painted turtles or any other place. Thanks.

My mom's boyfriend is moving to Louisiana in October.
A turtle laid eggs in our yard and will hatch around
August-Septemeber. (it has been a few months). But
my mom's boyfriend (Mr. Greg) wants to take them with
him and isn't it illegal to take turtles out of
their natural habitat? The climate is much different
from Lousiana then from here (hotter). But as I try
to tell him, he won't listen! I said "But the turtles
could die!" and he said "Well, if they die they die."
He is such a moron. I tell my mom and she doesn't
want him to take the turtles either, but when she
tries to convince Mr. Greg, they get into an arguement. The turtles are not his. He thinks so becasue he found the nest. But they are the environments! I need some help and please someone tell me that it is illegal! (the turtles are: the Eastern Box Turtle. I have been finding and taking care of them in the summer (then letting them go) for 3 years. I know how to take care of them.)

My son has had his sulcatta for over a year now and his dad was the original owner. He had him for a year beofre we got him. The belly of his shell was soft when we first got him and I looked online and it said calcium difficiency. So I got cal. powder and put it on his food. He ate Romaine lettuce collard greens and dandilion leaves. The only thing different was that we gave him was cherry tomatoes but he loved them and we only gave two in small bites.
When my son went to feed him last night his eyes were sunken in he was not moving. I tried to put him in the tub to see if it would help but he didnt move. When i looked at his belly it was black and blue like a bruise when you bump yourself. What could have caused this?
Prior to this he was pretty mobile and we had no idea that he would be sick. My son is devastated over this.
Does anyone have any info? Thanks.

I just moved to Florida from Maryland. I have a male albino corn snake that I purchased as a baby in February, so he's about 5 or 6 months old. He seems to be doing well, he is about 30 inches now. Ever since I moved here the temp. inside the cage is 78 degrees. I want to keep it so that it is 72 on the cool side and 82 on the warm side. I haven't been using the heater because when I did run it, it raised the temperature in the entire cage and went too high. Is there a way to lower the temp in there without just running more air conditioning and turning my whole house cold? I tried running a fan near his cage, but of course it didn't seem to do much to lower the temperature inside. Can a constant 78 temperature negatively affect him or his temperment? Any feedback appreciated, Thank You!

I've done a little bit of research and despite being intrigued by many breeds and types, I've narrowed down my decision; either a Ball Python, or a Corn Snake. Which is a better pet for a beginner snake owner?? (and why?)

I have a leopard gecko named Shadow. Whenever I take him out of his cage to play with him he's always really hyper & he crawls all over the place.. But he's very thin & I have a feeling that something is wrong with him.. Here's some pics[Obviously, I turned the flash off]:

From the top:

Him in His Entire Tank:

I know this diet is VERY wrong[now I do anyways..] but I got it from my brother who got it from the pet store when he got his gecko..

I feed Shadow about 1-2 dozen medium/large[usually 1 otherwise he throws up..] calcium dusted[I actually have no idea what it is but it says cricket dust on the bottle] crickets about once every 2 weeks..

& sometimes I'll give him wax worms hoping to get him a little thickerr.

I have 2 corn snakes, both about 2.5 feet long, in a 29 gallon tank. They've been together for a year now, and they've always got along great. For feeding, I separated them and put them back in the tank after they were done.

Well today I was in a bit of a rush, so I kept one (White) in the main tank, and put the other ( V ) in another, and fed them at the same time. V finished first, so I put him back into the main tank (White was finishing his, just the end of the hind legs/tail sticking out), and V started looking around hungrily. He sought out White, and struck at him, coiling him up. I immediately took them and gently (but hastily) uncoiled V from White. White regurgitated the meal, and V dropped it. I then put V in a separate tank again, washed off the mouse, and fed it to white again.

This is just setting up my question: Now anytime V comes near White, White freaks out and runs away as fast as he can. Will this last or will they calm down and be suite mates again?

The Rainbow was 12 years old and in good health. Once it got sick, we raised the temp in the tank and room. It spent more time in the water dish than usual and shed immediately. It had just eaten a medium-sized rat the week before, so it wasn't time to feed.

We kept the snakes separate, but a week later our baby ball python took ill and died in one day. Same symptoms, sat in it's water dish. It looked to me like it had a seizure, then passed out. Slack-jawed. Gradually came back around, but stayed relatively listless and unresponsive. Clear bile and bubbles from it's nose. Some poop and pee. It had a second wild seizure; open-mouthed biting the air and wild writhing and then went totally limp. It recovered for a while then died. We were on a camping trip in the boonies and couldn't find a vet.

We have one more small ball python and are afraid. Could it be a virus or bacteria? Someone mentioned wood chips. We use wood chips in our tanks as recommended by Petco to help them shed.

I have a tree frog named Sparky and i use mulch in his tank. After I completely change the substrate in the tank and thoroughly clean out the tank, (despite using a different brand of mulch) in a couple of weeks I notice teeny tiny white bugs crawling around in the substrate. They don't seem to be harming Sparky but I'm not sure. What are they, where do they come from and what can I do to get rid of them?

I have had Tweaky for awhile. All he has been fed are mealworms and crickets (thats what the pet store said to feed him). Whatelse can I feed him, and how many times during the week should he eat? He is full grown, but his tail isn't very fat. He is somewhat malnourished, and the store we got him from wasn't very helpful about what he should eat. He is mildly crippled from the incubation tempurature, so his hunting skills aren't all that great. :( I just want him to be as healthy and live the best natural life possible. He is about 2 1/2 years old now.
